I reply,What?
Cassie just pulled up.
I walk to the window and spot her car.
Fuck? It’s one o’clock in the morning.
What the hell is she doing here?
I get into the elevator and wait for it to hit the ground floor.
The doors open, and the warm breeze brushes against my naked chest.
“Hi.” She smiles. Her eyes breeze over me like the warm night air.
“Is everything okay?”
Her head tilts. The light from the moon hits her blue eyes. “Why do you always ask me that?”
“It’s late.”
“That it is.” She holds her smile. “Are you going to ask me up?”
“Cole knows you’re here.”
“Again”—she takes a step closer—“are you going to ask me up?”
I stare at her, weighing my options. Apparently, she doesn’t care who knows she’s here or why. I’d like to know the answer to that.
I thrust out my hand, knowing I would give this woman anything she wanted. “Come on up.”
She enters the elevator with me. Her sleek eyes stay on mine as she moves.
“Thank you,” she says.
The doors close us in together.
We take the silent ride up to my place. Heart beating hard in my chest, I remain with her. Holding her view with mine, I refuse to let her go. She came to me in the middle of the night.
Yeah. I know what she wants.
Inviting her in just validates that maybe I’m ready to give it to her. I’d offer her anything. All she needs to do is ask. I’m a slave when it comes to her. She has this power over me. One I’ve never allowed anyone to have. It scares the fuck out of me.
She steps into my place in a dark trench coat belted around the waist. “I hope I didn’t wake you.”
“No.” I rub a hand over my hair. Her feminine scent fills me, wreaking havoc on my already overworked senses. “I was awake.”
She stops and turns around. “Couldn’t sleep?”
I drop my hand from my head. “What do you want, Cassie?”
“I wanted to thank you for opening up to me about your life. I can’t imagine that was easy for you.”
I nod.
Her eyes soften. “You can trust me.”
I can’t explain it, but I believe her.
