“Are you staying in Florida?”

“Yes, my family is here. Well, I better get going.” He puts the satchel on his shoulder, preparing to leave. “Oh…” He pauses, lifting his finger. “A man was looking for you at the office yesterday.”

“A man? What did he want?”

“I’m not sure.” He shrugs.

“Did he leave a card or a name?”

“No, just said he’d come back.”

“Huh,” I bite the inside of my cheek, fear creeping inside. “What did he look like?”

Matthew glances up at the ceiling “Tall, sandy brown hair, fit like he works out.”

“Okay.” I stop him from proceeding with a description that fits Glenn. I push out another small smile, keeping my anxiety locked inside. “Thanks for bringing over the file.”

“It’s my job. I am your humble servant.” He laughs with a slight bow and a regal wave of his hand. “Oh.” He stands upright. “The man.”

“Yeah?” I tilt up on my toes, needing to know, kicking the not wanting to know out the door.

“Now that I think about it.” He wags his finger. “He could’ve been from Axial. Erica mentioned they’ve been snooping around for a new marketing company, and this guy had on a huge sterling silver ring with dragon claw prongs holding an onyx stone in the center. Something Axial would sell.”

My skin comes alive with goose bumps. I run a hand along my arm, trying to ward off the instant shiver.

He just described Glenn’s ring.

No. There’s no way he knows I’m here. I’m sure other rings out there resemble the one that slashed my cheek open and left an internal scar.

Wait! A couple of months ago, Shelby said a man was looking for me at the New Hampshire office. What if it was him?

Where has he been? Why was he in hiding? What does he want? I wish he’d just stay missing. Should I call the detective? What am I supposed to say? Some guy who looks like Glenn is stalking me? It sounds insane, especially when I wasn’t honest with Detective Sharpe from the beginning. I should’ve told the detective the truth.

“Miss Redmon, are you okay?”

“Yes.” I blink, dismissing the swirl of thoughts flooding my head. “I’ll ask around about Axial. Thanks again for this.” I hold up the folder before shutting the door and closing out Matthew.

Did Glenn find me? But how? I’ve been so careful.

I should’ve never come back to Florida. I should’ve declined this job.

No! I can’t think like that. I can’t allow Glenn to win. I won’t give him the satisfaction of controlling what I do. Not anymore. Never again!

But I’ll have to find out what happened to Glenn before I decide whether to take the job here in Florida or not. Then again, if he’s looking for me, it sounds like he’s getting close to finding me. I need to stop running and take a stance. I need to confront him. I can’t live in fear forever.

There’s a knock on the door. I look at it, dropping the folder on the table.

I head for the door.

I swing it open. “Did you forget something—Oh.” Met by stormy gray eyes, I feel my mouth slacken. “Brett?”

He grins. “Were you expecting someone else?”

“My, ah, assistant, Matthew.” I glance down the empty hall. “He was just here dropping off some stuff for work.”

The grin on Brett’s gorgeous face doesn’t make it to his dark eyes. It's as if he's fighting an internal storm to be here. Like he's unsure if this is where he wants to be—doubting himself, which is unlike Brett.

“Are you going to invite me in?”
