“You and Willa can count on me.” I get up from the bed and stand in front of her. Unable to cancel the urge to touch her, I run the pad of my thumb along her cheek. “You can always count on me, Harper.” I kiss her on the forehead and walk out of the room.

It’s that, or tear the towel off her and fuck her beautiful body.

Chapter 26

It’s been three days, and I can’t stop thinking about Cole and what I allowed him to do to me. He tied me up, and I loved it. At first, I thought I’d hate being confined, bound, and restricted, but it delivered what he proclaimed.

From the fight to my release. When all was said from his naughty mouth and done to achieve my ultimate orgasm, I was left feeling freer than I’ve ever felt. It leaves me wondering what else I’m fighting and how he could also set that free.

I walk into the half-plastered room. Lix is mixing the bucket of plaster, and Cole is working it on the walls.

“I need to be at the center in fifteen minutes for the meeting.”

Cole looks at me from over his broad shoulder, holding my eyes for a second as usual before he responds. Every time, I cherish that second and want to possess it a little longer. It’s a moment when only he and I exist.

“I’ll get you there. It’s only five minutes from here,” he says before turning the attention I so eagerly want back to the wall.

“I can take you.” Lix brushes his hands together.

“Great!” I smile, holding back the disappointment of not having a few minutes alone with Cole.

It’s been weird since our bondage session. He no longer sleeps with me at night, but at least we’ve kept the morning kiss ritual.

Cole turns to Lix. “You sure?”

“Yeah, I need a break anyway.”

Cole shrugs before he returns to the plastering. “Harper, text me when you’re done. I’ll come get you,” Cole says, not blessing me with another one of those second-too-long glances.

“Okay,” I say, following Lix out.

???

Lix pulls into the Domestic Abuse Center. “You going to be okay in there?”

“Yeah, I’ll be fine. The meeting shouldn’t last long.”

“Alright.” He nods. His bright-blue eyes sway over to me. “I’ll head back, but I can hang out if you want me to?”

“I’m good.” I smile and get out.

It’s the first time I’ve been here in five years. I remember Lisa, but I’m sure there are a few new people I don’t know. I walk inside. It looks like they had some remodeling done. No doubt done by the Daxon brothers. It’s more open and brighter. A few chairs in the front and a row of desks separates the hubs in the back where they take the hotline calls. The offices must be in the back now.

I spot Lisa right away. I waltz up to the desk she’s sitting at.

“Harper!” Her eyes widen. “How are you?”

“I’m doing okay. How about you?”

“I’m good. How’s Willa? I know your aunt. She’d tell you everything is okay, even if her house was sliding into the ocean.”

“Yeah.” I laugh. She knows Aunt Willa well. “But she’s doing great. Should be home this weekend.”

“I bet she’s happy about that. Oh, I have the stuff she asked me to give you.” She gathers some folders together on her desk. “Let’s see. I have the call records, the bills, and expenses…”

The front door opens. I glance up, doing a double take.

It’s Joel!
