“Jasper, Hadrian,” I said by way of greeting. “I think David’s had quite enough time with Skylar. We’re here to collect her.”

Jasper grinned as he stepped forward. He was always the bigger talker. Hadrian glowered at me, his whole body tense, his hands balled into fists. He was ready for a fight and he wasn’t the least bit interested in talking.

“David said you’d show up for that hybrid,” Jasper said. “He also said he doesn’t want to be disturbed.”

“He doesn’t always get what he wants,” I said.

“You have no authority in this realm,” Jasper reminded me. As if I needed the reminder.

“If I did, you’d already be in the dungeons,” I said with a fake smile.

“Good thing you’re no longer the regent. Imagine the look on your father’s face when you return with your tail between your legs,” he drawled.

“What if I return with your head on a platter?” I asked.

“I’d like to see you try it,” Hadrian said as he stepped forward.

“What am I missing?” Xander said. “What is he talking about?”

“Not now,” I said.

Hadrian tilted his head to the side and it made a cracking sound. “I’ve been waiting a long time to rumble with you without any rules.”

Jasper put his arm out, blocking the progress of his twin. “Not now.” He turned to me. “David’s not here. You can search the house if you want, but it won’t do you any good. He’s got your girl and there’s nothing you can do about it.”

I heard the unmistakable sounds of cracking bones, the telltale sign of a shifter changing from human form. Both the hellhounds were staring at me. I glanced over at Xander, where a fully formed wolf was now growling at the hounds.

The twins bared their teeth and tensed as they prepared to shift themselves. I charged Jasper, knocking him to the ground before he could begin the process. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Xander’s wolf leap onto Hadrian.

Jasper swung at me wildly and I dodged his blow. I’d caught him off guard and he was pissed.

His momentary surprise was short lived, and his fist made contact with my cheek. I winced but didn’t ease my hold.

He was pinned under me, and I dug my knee into his chest, keeping him down. “Tell me where Skylar is.”

Sparks danced on my fingers and I held my hands over him. His eyes moved from me to my hands. He bared his teeth. “You’re a traitor.”

“You know that’s bullshit,” I growled. “You know me better than that.”

His upper lip twitched, breaking his snarl. “You left. You ran. Like a bitch.”

I lowered my hand and sent a small shock through his chest. He convulsed and cried out. A tear slid down his face. I’d never used my magic on him and guilt twisted in my gut. Despite the bad blood between my brother and me, I never wished harm on him or his goons.

“Last chance, mother fucker. Where is Skylar?” I demanded.

“He used a portal but I don’t know where it led,” he said. “That’s the truth.”

I climbed off of Jasper and glared down at him. He was breathing heavy, his face scrunched up as he breathed through the pain from the jolt I sent through him.

I’d held back, but it was going to take him time to recover. All the guilt I’d felt was gone. David took my mate from me.

There was a lot I could forgive. Stealing another male’s mate wasn’t one of them.

My magic sizzled and popped on my fingertips, expanding as my rage grew. I looked over at Xander and Hadrian. Both were in their shifter forms, the two of them snapping and clawing at each other.

I walked toward the pair and they paused when they noticed me. Xander backed away, his eyes on the sparks coming from my hands.

Hadrian’s hellhound form faced me, drool dripping from his overly large mouth, teeth bared. The creature growled as it narrowed its yellow eyes.
