“That’s a private conversation.”

She scoffed out, “Private conversation? I think we left out privacy the second we walked into this conference room.”

“I’m not discussing our sex life—”

“Or lack of.”

“Kitten…”

“If you call me that one more time, I’m jumping over this table and clawing your eyes out.”

I laughed. I couldn’t help it. Her sass was always amusing to me. It was actually one of my favorite things about her.

“However you two want to produce an heir is in your hands.”

She breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank God.” Her reprieve didn’t last long.

There wasn’t a chance in hell I’d get her to agree to make a baby with me naturally, so I did what I did best.

I bargained, “I’ll give you fifty-one percent of one of the companies if you make a baby with me the good old fashion way.”

She glared at me, fully aware I’d just sweetened the pot.

Shifting her stare to my grandfather, she baited, “You’re going to allow him to give me fifty-one percent of one of your hard-earned businesses?”

His gaze connected with mine. He could see it in my eyes—I wouldn’t back down.

Peering back at her, he shrugged. “It’s the least I can do.”

“Fuck me,” she muttered under her breath.

Unable to resist, I confirmed, “Don’t worry, kitten. I fully intend to.”

“Then it’s decided,” Mr. Montgomery stated. “We’ll amend the contract. It’d be better if your child was made out of love anyway.”

“I don’t love him.”

“Well, neither did your grandmother when she married me, but over time—”

“What?”

She took the word right out of my mouth.

“We had an arranged marriage as well.”

“You’re lying,” Belle scoffed.

“I have no reason to lie to you, but if you don’t believe me, then ask her the next time you see her.”

“I can’t believe this. Grandmother has always been madly in love with you.”

“Case and point, Belle.”

She considered what he shared for a minute, staring down at the contract.

With her eyes now on me, she spoke with conviction, “I won’t ever love you, Tristian.”

I narrowed my intense stare at her. “Challenge accepted, kitten.”
