“Are you sure? I feel bad leaving you alone.”
“Go, eat all the holiday treats for me.” I smiled.
“Ooh, I’ll bring some sugar cookies back with me for you.”
“Perfect.”
She went to leave, but paused at the last second and said, “Is everything okay with you and Bryan?”
“Why wouldn’t it be?”
“Kaiden said he seemed a little off…”
“Beats me.” I shrugged, the lie coiling around my heart like barbed wire. I hated lying to her. But I wasn’t ready to tell her.
The truth was, I wasn’t ready to tell anyone.
