Turning back to the bar, I tap it for the bartender to bring me another drink.

“I’ll have what he’s having.” The bartender nods before he walks off. “Let me guess, you’re trying to work out all the ways to kill me?” She reaches for my glass and takes a sip before placing it back on the bar.

“My toaster is waterproof, so that’s out of the question,” I tell her. She throws her head back and laughs. The skin of her long neck, bare and sun-kissed, glows under the fluorescent light. “Though I’m sure I could find something. What are you allergic to?” The bartender picks that moment to deliver her drink, and she wipes the tears from her eyes from her laughter and picks it up.

“I would say men…”

“Ha! Guess we’re both shit out of luck.”

“Guess we are.” She reaches over and taps the band I’m wearing. “You like to watch. Is that what you’d like?”

“What?”

“As a wedding present. Would you like to watch me?”

“Watch you?” I ask because I don’t believe the words leaving her mouth.

“Yes. Would you like to go to one of those beds and watch me fuck myself in this wedding dress?”

I mean, I’m only human…

SIXTEEN

ADORA

I’ve pleasured myself before. Many times.

Have I ever had someone watch?

No.

Do I want him to watch?

Possibly.

I know Joey is attractive.

I’m not blind.

I can see that out of all the men available, he is probably the best choice for me.

Does that mean I want to be married?

No.

Again, not my choice.

But I need to try, even if it’s not something I would have chosen for myself.

He doesn’t seem all that shocked by my question, just more caught off guard.

I like sex. Despite my past, I do.

“Joey, I need words.” The music is loud all around us and in some ways distracting.

“Why would you offer that?”

Who the hell asks that? A monk.
