“Is that why she killed him?”

“I believe so.”

“You should ask her. It would be safer for you to know. You don’t want to piss her off and not wake up the next day due to a knife being lodged in your throat,” he jokes. I don’t laugh, though. “And the woman?”

I glance toward the kitchen where Adora is helping with tidying up.

“Do you think she loves her?”

“I think she was close, but it’s hard to tell with her.” I grip the glass in my hand but don’t drink from it. “She wants her more than she wants me.”

“But she does want you,” Keir states without an ounce of doubt, and I wish I had that same confidence in this situation. “I can see it. We all saw it. And just before, she chose to come back to sit next to you, not chase after the woman. You’ve got to take that as a win.”

“She did.” I nod because I took note of that too.

“So have a little faith. There is hope there after all.”

“It’s time we go,” Sailor says as she walks into the room.

Adora helps her get the kids ready and carries their bags outside.

Keir’s hand lands on my back.

“Ask questions. Get to know her. It’s the only way forward.”

We watch them leave, and as soon as the door shuts behind us, Adora looks at me pleadingly. “I need to talk to her. She seemed worried and not like herself.” I know who she’s talking about, and I say nothing as she steps up to me. “I like you, Joey. I do. One day, I could even love you. But right now, I need to know what’s wrong with Becca. I want you to stay by my side as I call her, so you can see that I have no ill intentions.”

“You aren’t allowed to go back to her,” I tell her, and it’s like some sort of reflex action, but then I realize it’s more about protecting what’s mine. I grip her waist again, and her eyes glance down to my fingers, then back up to my face.

“I don’t intend to. As I said, I’m worried. I promise that’s all.” She reaches up, running her fingers through my curls, and my arm circles her waist.

“We can wait. How about you take me to bed?” she suggests, and a small smile plays on her lips. As tempting as she is, I don’t want to stray from the subject until I know she really wants that and isn’t worrying about something else or thinking about that woman rather than concentrating on me. Yeah, call me selfish, I don’t give a fuck. When my woman comes, I want to be the only thing she thinks about.

“Call her.”

Adora shakes her head slowly, and the look in her eye answers my concern before she does. “It’s waited all this week, so it can wait one more night. Now, how about we go up and christen our bed? We haven’t done that yet.”

“Now you’re talking my kind of language.” My lips brush hers as I pick her up and forget all about the bullshit thoughts I previously had. Instantly, her legs wrap around my waist and her arms wind around my neck.

“It’s a bit unfair, don’t you think, that you got to play with me, and I didn’t get to play with you?” I take the first step of the staircase and she unwinds her legs from me, placing her feet on the stair. She steps up one, then looks down at me. “Drop your trousers.”

“Don’t have to tell me twice.” I undo them as she stands there patiently, watching, and licks her lips ever so slightly, as she sits. With her index finger, she instructs me to come to her.

Enticing.

Alluring.

A seductive temptress.

I take one step, and with her sitting on the stair, my cock is now in her face. She lifts her hands to my hips, then moves them around and gives my ass a squeeze. I watch in fascination as her tongue darts out and licks my tip.

“At least you aren’t biting it this time.”

“No, I’m going to kiss it better. Would you like that?” She licks it again, just the tip, her tongue circling it.

Fuck me.

I don’t think we’ll make it to the bedroom if she continues that.
