I thrust inside her. “Okay, you’re going to play that way, are you?”

Let’s just say we’re both running late by the time we leave the house. As soon as I crawled out of bed, the countdown timer in my head started up again. Maybe we should have had a longer engagement.

After I takethe pictures of all the city employees, I take on Logan, Nikki, and Noah.

“So I want one with Noah kissing my stomach.” Nikki lifts her shirt. “Come on, Noah.”

Noah ignores his mom because he’s too busy giving me a death glare.

“I’m seriously thinking about changing my name and I was Noah first,” I say and chuckle.

“You. No. Noah.” He slaps his chest. “Me. Noah.”

“Okay, buddy.” Logan takes his son’s hand away from his chest and looks at Nikki. “Is this something we should be talking to someone about? This doesn’t seem like normal two-and-a-half-year-old behavior.”

“He’s fine. He’s just pissed that Mandi had to go find a guy named Noah to marry. I mean, there are other men in Alaska.”

I clear my throat.

“Not that she didn’t find a keeper in you,” Nikki is quick to change her tune. “Come on, sweetheart.”

Logan looks at Nikki. “You’re barely showing.”

“We’re going to do a progression of them.”

Logan looks at me. “Is that something people do? Sounds like something we could do with a cell phone.”

“Logan!” Nikki scolds.

Baby Noah walks across the room and stomps on my foot. Good to constantly know where I stand with this kid.

“I don’t do a lot of portraits, so I wouldn’t know what’s in right now,” I tell Logan.

“Well, it is in. You can trust me.” Nikki waves as though our opinions are of little concern.

Logan blows out a breath. “I guess we’ll be seeing each other every month.”

He stands beside his wife in their color-coordinated outfits. I snap a few pictures, and we do one of just Nikki and Noah. I get him to not fixate on me long enough to take a cute picture of him kissing his mom’s belly.

By the time we’re done, it feels as if we just started.

“Thanks, Noah. Let me know what I owe you.” Nikki says.

“Yeah, right.” Taking money from Mandi’s family feels weird. I’m used to doing pictures for people I know as favors.

“Thanks again.” She smiles and they walk out, Noah turning around and staring me down the entire time.

Next, Posey comes in with baby Shay nestled into her carrier. “Gavin’s going to meet us here. Thank you so much for doing this.”

“It’s not a problem.” I snap a picture of Shay in her carrier. “I’m going to be honest, I’ve never done newborn photography or even moved one around.”

“It’s okay, I did a YouTube tutorial today. We’re going to wrap her up like a burrito, and I had a bed delivered to Gavin, which he’s bringing.”

“A bed?”

“A dog bed.” Posey pulls Shay out of the carrier, and she coos. “And no worries, she should sleep through the entire thing.”

“I hope so.” I’m a little nervous the kid will wake up and start screaming.
