It’s two days before the wedding and my nerves are on edge. Rather than bachelor and bachelorette parties, we opted to do low-key male/female get-togethers.

All the girls and I had a nice dinner at Dori’s grandson’s restaurant, Terra and Mare, in Lake Starlight, and the guys just drank beers at Truth or Dare Brewery. Nothing exciting, but Noah’s mom and Midge did sit beside each other at dinner and spent the entire night talking, which gave me hope that his dad’s attitude toward his mom might soften sometime soon.

So, Noah and I have tonight together, then we’ve agreed to stay apart the night before the wedding. Actually, my mom demanded that we don’t spend the night before the wedding together.

I’m at the inn when a courier service walks in.

“Hi,” I greet him.

“I have a delivery for Amanda Greene.” He holds out an envelope.

“That’s me.” I accept the envelope, but there’s nothing written on the outside except my name. I tip the guy and he leaves.

Sitting in the chair behind reception, I open the envelope, wondering if it’s something for the wedding.

Inside is an invitation for a one-night stay at Glacier Point Resort that’s to be used tonight. Dinner in the room, massages for two, and it’s made out to Mr. and Mrs. Noah Winters.

Trina walks in a second later with her overnight bag in hand.

“I’m on tonight,” I tell her.

“Nope. I was given clear instructions that you are to be off tonight. An early honeymoon or something?” She puts her bag behind the desk.

“But—”

She grabs my purse from under the desk and shoves it into my chest. “You go.”

“Okay.” I leave, not understanding who this came from, but call Noah on the way back home.

“I don’t understand,” he says.

“Neither do I, but we have a reservation at Glacier Point tonight in Lake Starlight. Meet me at home?”

God, that sounds so weird.

“I’m just finishing up and I’ll meet you there.”

We hang up, and I drive the rest of the way home. After thinking about it for a bit, I decide I know who this early wedding present is from. The only thing I don’t understand is why they’d demand we go to the resort tonight.

When I arrive home, I walk in, and the family room is dark. I flick on the lights and two bodies scramble on the couch. I’m standing behind the couch, but I can see that it’s Chevelle and who I guess is her new boyfriend. She’s yet to introduce him to anyone in the family but is bringing him to my wedding.

“Oh, I’m so sorry.”

Chevelle quickly gets off the couch and stands to face me. “Hey, Mandi. Um… this is Derek.”

The guy doesn’t stand, just looks over his shoulder and gives me a wave.

“Hi, Derek.” I look back at Chevelle. “So, Noah is on his way home and we’re going to Glacier Point for the night. Someone gave us a gift certificate, but we have to use it tonight.”

Chevelle rolls her eyes. “You know who it’s from, right?”

I nod. “The grandmas. I figure Dori’s grandson-in-law owns the resort, so they probably swindled some deal or annoyed him until he finally gave in. You know what they’re like.”

“I hope one day I’m in the position to get all these luxury things.”

I raise an eyebrow. “Luxury things? Chevelle, need I remind you of your bridesmaid’s dress?”

“Babe, I thought we were watching a movie,” Derek says from the couch.
