“This place is so much nicerthan the inn,” I whisper to Noah when a bellhop takes our bags.

“You serve very different clientele. Remember that.” Noah leads the way to the reception area.

The woman who helps us is overly friendly, especially after seeing our gift certificate. When Noah tries to hand over his credit card, she says all incidentals are taken care of already and to enjoy our night in their luxury suite.

We follow the directions to the elevator and take it to the top floor.

“I feel like I’m supposed to carry you over the threshold, but we’re not married yet.” He scans the key card and the green light shines for us to open the door.

I step in and stop, Noah walking right into my back. “Holy crap,” I say.

He walks around me. “It’s nice, but I like the inn more.”

“Oh, come on.” I slip off my shoes and run to the plush bed, falling onto the king-size mattress. “This is magical.”

He falls down right next to me, and I bounce in the air before the mattress settles. “It’s okay. I like the homey feel of the inn though.”

I straddle him, my hands splayed on his chest. “Stop it. You know this is nice.”

“I didn’t say it wasn’t nice. I said I like the inn more.”

I bend down and kiss him once. “You’re sweet.”

“I can be sweeter.” His hand inches up the hem of my blouse. “It’s been a long day without you.”

“You’ve been a busy bee over at the makeshift studio.” I climb off him and look at the room service menu. “How’s it going?”

He sits up and takes my feet in his hands, massaging them. It’s a habit of his I’ve come to love. “I forgot how fun it is to do portraits. Usually, it’s just me and an unknowing subject, but I enjoy the interaction with other people and how satisfying it is when you get a kid to smile at the camera. I told one kid today that I was Thor, and the parents were thrilled. But everyone is so happy. I forgot there were families out there like that.”

I wiggle my toes. “Yeah. Anything new with your dad and grandma?”

“Nothing yet. So, how much do I have to pay you to have a kid?”

I laugh, and thankfully, so does he. We’re already walking a thin line.

“Hopefully, my mom will do some convincing.”

“Maybe we can get them to dance together at the wedding,” I say, and he nods.

“We’ll have some opportunities after we’re married when I’m not traveling. I really thought before the wedding would be our best shot, but my father is so damn stubborn.”

A big part of me wants to suggest that he stick around town so he can be sure they repair their relationship, but that’s not what we agreed on. It wouldn’t be fair for me to change the plan now.

“Why am I giving you a foot massage when we have one booked downstairs?”

I chuckle. “Very true. What did she say?” I ask, since the receptionist told him what time we need to be down at the spa.

“Seven o’clock. Want to eat after?”

“Yes, but.” I glance at the clock. “That still leaves us an hour.” I crawl to him. “What should we do with that hour, do you think?”

“We could do the table assignments,” he offers.

I touch his forehead with my wrist. “Are you feeling okay? Who wants to do table assignments?”

“Did you have something else in mind?” He smirks as though he likes playing this game.

“I do… and I think you’re really going to enjoy it.” I get down on my knees on the richly carpeted floor and unbutton his jeans.
