Darren's lips twitched. "Piper is of a different breed that is for certain." The humor on his face disappeared, and a more serious expression took its place. "Speaking of which, this weekend has me concerned."

"About?"

"Miss Billings and the interest Valentine has in her."

I inclined my head. "Yes, I am aware. We hope to rectify that by binding her to us."

Darren's brows furrowed at my words. "I'm not certain that will work the way you hope. There have been other developments that I have implored Piper to bring to your attention, but she has not heeded my request."

I looked up from my phone and quirked a brow. "Such as?"

Darren seemed uncomfortable, an unusual feat for him. "Ever since Valentine visited, a bouquet of flowers has been delivered every day to Miss Billings." He paused as if he didn’t want to tell me. "From Valentine."

My brows shot up to my forehead. "Really? And these flowers, were they accompanied by messages, or were they just signed by the bastard?"

"Yes," Darren breathed out, clearly happy to finally have the secret off of his chest. "The notes he has sent are similar to those we'd seen back in Prague."

My eyes narrowed, and my lips pressed into a thin line, a low growl coming from my throat before I could stop it. "No more flowers. I don't care if you have to bar all deliveries to the house. He will not turn Piper into Danielle. I won't stand for it."

Darren nodded his head. "It will be done."

I turned back to my phone as Darren left the room. The tension I'd just gotten rid of had come back with a vengeance. Valentine was the worst kind of predator, the kind that took pleasure in tormenting and torturing his prey before finally putting them out of their misery. However, he liked to hide the fact that he was even hunting you behind gifts and pleasant smiles. His victims rarely knew they were being hunted until it was too late. Thankfully, Piper had us to protect her.

Danielle DePuff had not been so lucky.
