"What's the job?"

I glanced up from the ground, pausing as a group of bikini-clad women passed by us.Their eyes locked on Darren, and they liked what they saw. My stomach shifted strangely. I pushed the feeling down and shook my head. "What?"

"The job you circled in the paper," Darren continued as if he hadn't seen the women leaving trails of drool in their wake.

"Oh," I jerked my eyes forward. "A receptionist for a lawyer's firm."

Darren frowned. "I thought you hated those kinds of jobs."

"No," I corrected him. "They didn't like me. I like them fine." I kicked the ground as we walked. "It'll be good for me. I'll get out of the hotel. You'll have more time for yourself to do work for Antoine and... other stuff." I bit the inside of my cheek, willing my face not to go red.

Darren quieted.

"Is that okay?" I stopped and looked at him.

He was staring at me strangely.

"What's wrong?" I angled my head to the side, then touched my face. "Did I get pen on my face?"

Shaking his head, Darren turned away from me. "No, you're lovely. Let's go find something to eat. Then perhaps we could see about getting you something to wear for your job interview."

I laughed. "I don't have the job yet. I haven't even applied."

Darren's lips ticked up at the edges. "I have no doubt you will charm them the same way you charmed the Durands."
