"What do you mean you're just going to wait and see?" Darren shouted in a tone I'd never heard from him before.

"I'm saying that we don't know how far along she is," Antoine answered back with an impatient sigh.

"Gretchen said that the doctor told Piper she was about three months along. I don't think your wait and see approach is going to work." Darren kept going, confusing me more and more by the second. "What are you going to do when she wakes up one morning and she's got a huge belly? You can't just wipe her memories and make her pretend it's not there. That's not going to work."

"Obviously not," Antoine answered. There was a pause before Antoine continued, "Have you taken a moment to consider this may be your child?"

I gasped. My hand went to my mouth to stifle the sound. It was too late.

"Piper?" Antoine called up the stairs. "Is that you?"

Forcing myself not to freak out, I stiffly walked down the stairs and faced the two of them. Three of them I guess since Marcus was in the corner with his arms over his chest not saying anything.

"Someone better start talking because I'm this close from calling the cops," I croaked out, the tears and angry frustration coming to the surface.

"Piper," Darren began, moving toward me.

"No, don't touch me. You did this to me. Didn't you?" I couldn't help it as my voice rose to a shrill pitch. "What did you do, drug me? Why can't I remember it? Or you? Why are you all looking at me like I'm something that needs to be coddled and protected."

I didn't give them a chance to answer as I shoved between them to get to the fridge. "And another thing. Why do you rarely eat anything but what's in these?" I held up the container and took a drink. I quickly spit it out as the cold copper taste hit my tongue. "Blood?" I stared at Darren and threw the container, splattering the red liquid across the wall. "You told me the last maid was into some weird vampire stuff, not the rest of you too!"

"Piper," Marcus tried to grab for me. "Please calm down."

"No!" I jerked away from him. "You calm down. I want answers. What kind of freak show is this?"

"Piper. Calm down." There was something different about Antoine's voice. Something about it made me want to do what he said.

I fought against it not wanting to remain calm. I just knew that if I stayed calm something bad was going to happen to me.

"She's fighting my control," Antoine said strangely. "She doesn't even have her abilities and she's able to fight back against me."

I locked my eyes on him and glared. "Let me go!"

Something snapped and I was finally able to feel the full force of my emotions again. This time I didn't wait around for answers.

I ran.

The doorbell rang as I clambered through the dining room and toward the front. I could feel them behind me, closing in as if I were a prey to their predator.

Before any of them could grab me, I swung open the front door. A man dressed like some eighties mobster stood on the doorstep. He took one look at me and grinned.

"Piper! I'm so happy to see you're doing better," he exclaimed, moving into the house without asking. "When Antoine told me you were sick I was beside myself with worry. But lucky for me to stop by again and run into you."

I stared at the man having no idea who he was whatsoever. "Antoine told you I was sick?"

The man in question walked into the room, Marcus and Darren coming up behind him. My world came crashing down on me as I realized something. Maybe I was sick? Maybe I didn't remember getting pregnant because something really bad happened to me and my mind is helping me not to remember.

Or maybe it's all a lot of horse shit and nobody was telling the truth.

"It's not," Rayne said, coming down the front stairs. "It's not horse shit."

I gaped at him. "Did you just read my mind?"

Rayne nodded. "Yes."

This was unbelievable. These people are crazy. I had to get out of here. Maybe this guy could help.

"Vincent is not the one to turn to," Rayne said before I could even open my mouth. "We'll explain everything if you just calm down."
