“I promise something like this won’t happen again.” I tilted my head to the side, locking my eyes with hers.

“Can I pick you up after school?” I asked, leaning down to peck the tip of her straight nose as we stood by the entrance to her campus. The day was sunny and warm, and most students were outside, chatting and laughing.

“Sure.” She smiled, tilting her head back to look me in the eyes, our hands interlocked. “I finish at five thirty. Does that time work for you?”

I leaned down to whisper into her ear, smirking, “I’ll be here at five thirty sharp.”

I didn’t see her face, but I heard a soft chuckle. I slid my hand at the back of her neck, stroking her smooth skin gently with my fingertips before leaning down to look her in the eyes. She cast her thick, black eyelashes upward, biting her lower lip temptingly, and I couldn’t resist kissing her. I put my finger under her chin, tilting her head back, our gazes locked. She was breathing shallow, her brows furrowing. I brushed my lips against hers, and I could feel her body tremble before kissing her gently at first, but as soon as our tongues touched, swirling around with each other’s, a chill ran down my spine. I started kissing her hungrily, barely restraining myself from pushing her against the stone fence and fucking her right there in front of everyone.

“I can’t believe it!” A high-pitched voice articulating every word broke up our heated tangle. “Look! Melanie Atwood is cheating on Theo!”

I slowly pulled away, breathing heavily. Melanie seemed upset and embarrassed. I couldn’t let her feel that way. Not because of me.

I tilted my head to the side to see a group of girls standing in a half circle, watching us. I glanced at the one with a squealing voice. “Melanie’s done something she should’ve done a long time ago. She dumped him,” I said, my tone low. The girl’s mouth slowly parted, and her eyes grew wide. “She’s now with a real man.” I winked at the girls, who blushed, suddenly speechless. I switched my attention back to Melanie. Her cheeks flushed too. I put a section of her hair behind her ear and kissed her forehead. “I’ll see you later, babe.”

“Yeah.” She smiled, somewhat embarrassed, somewhat satisfied. “I’ll see you later.Babe.”

I turned on my heel and headed toward the parking lot.

“Was that…” I heard the girls gasping as I walked away. “Shane Vergoossen?”
