The Luna is our revered goddess. If he pledges something in her name, even a brutal shifter like Walker would be held to it.

“If that’s what you want…” A hint of a smirk curves his lips before he says, “I swear to the Luna that, after those twenty-five days, you can leave with your packmate if you want to.”

“All of them?”

“Yes. Anyone from the Mountainside Pack who wants to leave with you, I won’t stop them. Is that good enough for you?”

Not quite.

“And they can leave alive, right? You swear that, too?”

“Of course.” He agrees so readily, I can’t help but wonder what I’m missing. There has to be some catch. After everything I heard about my bio-dad, he’s not supposed to be this rational. This agreeable. Something’s not right, but I forget all about that when he gives his head a mocking bow and says, “Your turn, daughter.

He’s pushing me. My acting days—back when I had to pretend to be Omega Gem—are long behind me. I don’t even know if I could ever fool the Wicked Wolf of the West if I tried, and I’m definitely not trying. Anger has my cheeks going hot, my fingers flexing and curling into loose fists, my back stiffening every freaking time he calls me daughter.

So, of course, the big bastard keeps on doing it.

I refuse to give him the satisfaction of snapping my jaws at him.

“It’s only for twenty-five days?”

You think I would’ve understood what he was getting at by such a specific number of days.

“That’s right. One for every year you’ve been gone. If, at the end of the twenty-five days, I haven’t convinced you to choose the Western Pack, then you and your… guests can walk away from me. And, I vow to the Luna, I’ll never bother you again.”

It’s the last vow to the Luna that seals it for me. Not even he can break that vow.

Ryker’s going to hate this. I’m going to have to grovel a ton when I get back to Accalia. I promised him I would only be gone for a couple of days, and now I’m about to agree to twenty-five days. But, hey… if I can accept his groveling for making me spend a whole year believing that he chose Trish Danvers over me, he can understand why I have to say yes to this.

I’ll never bother you again.

“Swear to the Luna that the same goes for Ryker. You won’t bother my mate or the Mountainside Pack again, either, no matter what happens.”

A small smile plays at the corner of his mouth. He’s enjoying this.

Asshole.

“I swear that, too.”

“Fine.” What else can I say? We’ve come this far, and if this is what I have to agree to to rescue Trish and keep both Jace and Duke safe, I will. “I’ll stay.”

Idon’t swear, though. And if he notices that I refuse to even after I pinned him down and made him do it, he doesn’t mention it.

Arrogant bastard.
