Page 36 of Forever Mates

But it was missing. I proceeded to throw everything I packed with me onto the floor in my panic, cursing up a storm when I realize that one of the Western Pack wolves must have gone through my things and taken it. Elizabeth crept in to see what was going on, a look of understanding crossing her dainty features when she understood my mood.

Turns out, there’s a strict ‘no phone’ policy in the Wolf District. The Alpha is dedicated to keeping his territory so secluded, they’re not even to allowed to have contact with the outside world. By me agreeing to stay, I gave up my ability to contact my mate.

Talk about not reading the fine print.

That was almost enough to have me say ‘fuck this’ and leave. Almost, though, because I didn’t come all this way to fail.

Twenty-five days. I gave my word. If I break it, it’s about the same as me challenging Walker. And while I’m barely resisting the urge to shift and go for his thick throat, I have to remember that it’s not just about me anymore. I still haven’t seen Trish, though he swears she’s being well taken care of. I brought Jace and Duke with me here, and I’m not going to do anything to jeopardize them, either.

What about Accalia? The Wolf District is way bigger than any of the other Alphas know. If I push Walker too hard, he could use my new status as Alpha of the Mountainside Pack to attack us all instead of just me.

Luna damn it.

“Let me go get my shoes.”
