“Well?” Annmarie asked, crossing her arm and leveling a glare at Adrian.

“Well what?” he replied.

“How does she look?”

He pushed away from the door and sauntered in the room, stopping in front of her. “I’d do her.”

Oh, God. There went the visuals again. And her body, heating this time not from embarrassment but from a sexual awakening that had really lousy timing. She never got turned on when men looked at her. Never. Why did the looks she got from Duncan and Adrian make her womb clench and her pussy quiver in anticipation?

“You’re both practically drooling on her,” Annmarie said with a note of glee in her voice. “Perfect!”

“For the love of blood, Annmarie. You’re scaring the poor girl to death.”

Harlee turned toward the doorway, her eyes widening as a woman walked in. She looked like a slightly older version of the woman in the photograph Robert had shown her earlier.

“She doesn’t look scared to me,” Adrian replied.

The woman waved her hand and stepped in front of Harlee. “Of course she’s frightened. Dragged out of her bed in the middle of the night and then my brother drops a bomb of epic proportions on her. Who wouldn’t freak out a bit?”

Okay, so this woman was Robert’s sister? “I thought Robert said that his sister…”

The woman smiled, her hazel eyes filled with warmth. “Amelia was my older sister. I’m Sara, the youngest of our clan. And you are my niece.” Sara’s eyes filled with tears and squeezed Harlee’s hands. “You look so much like her it’s as if she’s come back to life. Welcome to the family, darling.”

When Sara enveloped her in a hug, Harlee closed her eyes, almost wishing she really was who they thought she was. But she wasn’t. She was human and it was her job to see that all the people in this room were eventually taken in and destroyed.

Something about that thought jabbed at her, nausea rising rapidly. She pushed back and attempted a smile. “I’m happy to meet you, Sara.”

“Surely we can find something more…appropriate for her to wear, couldn’t we?” Sara said, glaring at Annmarie.

Annmarie’s lips curled in a venomous smile. “She looks hot. Leave her alone. You’re just jealous because you’re fucking Adrian.”

Harlee couldn’t contain the shocked gasp. She looked at Sara, who still smiled warmly, then over at Adrian, who shrugged.

So he was having a sexual fling with Sara? Though very attractive, Sara didn’t look at all Adrian’s type. And that thought almost had her bursting out laughing. Just what kind of woman did she think was his type? As if she had any clue. Obviously his type was Sara, it wasn’t any of her business and she had no right to feel the twinge of jealousy she felt.

“You’re so crude sometimes, Annmarie.”

“Oh please. Like you two haven’t gotten it on in the middle of the hallway on some nights. Give it a rest, Sara, and quit trying to play sweet and innocent for Harlee’s sake.”

Sara’s face contorted in anger, but she quickly hid it and linked her arm in Harlee’s, once again offering a calm smile. “Some people have no class. Come, darling, let’s go downstairs to the library and you can tell me all about yourself.”

“I don’t think so,” Duncan said, blocking the doorway before Sara could lead her through it.

“Why not?”

“Because Adrian and I have things to do, and those things include Harlee. So you’ll have to save your inquisition for later.”

Things? What things? Oh, God, surely they weren’t going to attempt to have sex with her right now, were they? She knew she shouldn’t have put on these clothes. They made her look…available.

“Very well,” Sara said, stepping away from Harlee. “We’ll spend some time together later, dear.”

“I guess that means I don’t get to hang out either,” Annmarie said, her full lips curving into a pout.

“Not right now,” Adrian said.

“I’ll catch you later then,” Annmarie said, giving Harlee a quick hug. “Just relax, honey. I know this is all a shock to you, especially since you didn’t even know our kind existed before last night, but we’re really nice people. You’ll see once you get to know us.”

She would never get to know them. Any of them. Because she had to do her job. “I’ll see you soon,” she said, feeling strangely guilty for lying to Annmarie. She really wasn’t very good at this covert operations stuff. Lying always made her sick to her stomach.
