Over and over, he thrust. Their bodies rocked in a dance older than time. For long moments, they communed only through touches and caresses. Sighs and moans broke the silence and each little exploration sent frissons of need throughout her nerve endings. Then his pacing changed. More force and friction were applied. He gripped her hips tight while his pumped, and the root of his shaft rubbed that all-important bundle of nerves at her center. With each renewed stroke, every frantic push, Lavinia was hurtled closer and closer to that looming cliff where she’d learn to fly all over again.

Then she couldn’t tamp the sensations any longer in favor of drawing them out. He thrust again and with authority; the emotions deep down in his eyes were startling for all they alluded to. She caught her breath. Her body tensed, and then down, down, down she fell, into that void filled with nothing except white light and intense bliss.

“Per-ci-val!” She didn’t care if the staff heard that keening cry, for she was no longer in the room as she flew higher and higher.

The earl grunted and then groaned as he shortly followed. His member pulsed and jerked as warm jets of his seed spilled into her core, and as he ground his pelvis into hers to prolong the coupling, she trembled and went gently over the edge once more.

“Damn, that was good,” he whispered against the side of her neck while he collapsed on top of her.

“Agreed.” Completely spent, she clung to him, not quite ready to lose that heated intimacy. Her breath came in ragged pants. “That was… You were…” She swallowed to encourage moisture into her suddenly dry throat. “Where have you been hiding this whole time?” Every portion of this night was in direct contrast to what he’d given her before that the shock of it still held her captive.

“As I said, you are my wife now, and I want to be a better man for you.” His breath skated over her cheek, her neck as he rolled onto his side and took her with him. “For us.” A chuckle rose in his throat. It resonated in her chest when he released it. Renewed awareness shivered to attention. “Our union might have started as a mistake, but who’s to say something good can’t grow out of that?”

“Oh.” A blanket of warmth stole through her that had nothing to do with the exertions they’d both shared. Unexpectedly, a few pieces of her heart flew into his keeping. Had he meant what he’d said or was it merely an act to win her over?

Only time would tell, but for ow, she’d accept the gift at face value.

With a soft smile, she rested her arms atop his and snuggled into his embrace. Finally, she was at peace, or at least she believed that she’d found a bit of solace. Lavinia had no idea where her future was headed, for she wasn’t so inexperienced to think he’d suddenly and permanently changed overnight, but she knew where she’d been. Anywhere was better than that, and as long as there was hope between them, it was enough for now.
