“I don’t believe you,” he hissed between his teeth. “Tell me the truth!”

“I don’t know, all right?” She shook her arm from his tight grip and stumbled back as he let go of her. “I haven’t had my courses in a while, but I need to see a doctor to be certain.”

“How long?” he whispered. All of his drunken stupor seemed to have left him.

“What?” she asked, confused.

“How long have you suspected you might be with child?”

“A few weeks,” she answered weakly.

“You should have told me.”

“I did just tell you! It might be nothing, I don’t know yet.” His attitude was starting to really frighten her now.You should have told me.

And what would you have done about it?

“I can’t be here right now.” He turned and walked away from her before she could utter a protest.

“Wait!” she called after him anyway, but he was already gone. Blended with the darkness, leaving her completely and utterly alone.
