Eloise threw a superior look at Garric again. “See, I can stand up for myself.”

“Aye, you can,” he said and tipped his head to the side.

Eloise turned in the indicated direction and saw Hades.Of course.

That’s why the room had fallen silent, not because of anything she’d done. He stepped forward and shielded Eloise from the rest of the men.

“She is not to be touched,” he growled. “If you so much as look at her the wrong way, you will see the consequences. And trust me, you will not enjoy them.”

Eloise peeked from behind his back and saw the bandits tremble under Hades’ gaze. He turned sharply, and Eloise stepped back on instinct.

“I thought I told you to look after her,” he barked at the guards.

They kept silent, not saying anything in their defense.

“It’s not their fault, I—”

Hades cast a menacing gaze toward her, and Eloise was startled into silence. It seemed like black overtook his usually gray eyes, and he truly looked like the devil.

“Take her to her room,” he addressed the guards.

“I can take care of myself!” Eloise finally collected her wits to reply.

Hades ignored her. He just stared at his guards until they escorted her out of the room.

They walked in silence until they reached the second floor and turned into their corridor.

“Is he always like this?” Eloise finally asked.

“No,” Sal answered. “But that’s how we know when he is truly enraged.”
