Epilogue

Four years later

Lavinia looked out the window at the narrow street. It was late, and she couldn’t make out anything in the dark, but she was certain it was beautiful. After all, it was Sebastian’s favorite city on earth.

Sebastian got used to their English life rather quickly, but he hadn’t stopped telling her stories about his beloved Paris.

It took them a while to get here. But considering everything that had happened, four years after their marriage wasn’t that long to finally have their wedding trip.

Sebastian wrapped his arms around her from behind. “Are you tired?” He asked, stroking her rounded belly.

“No.” Lavinia smiled and shook her head.

“Liar,” he growled in her ear, making her shiver.

“Maybe I am a bit tired, but I am equally as excited. We are finally in Paris!”

Sebastian kissed her ear, then down her neck. “You need to rest. It’s been a long journey. And since our little one is asleep—”

There was a sound of footsteps behind the door, and then the loud knocking. “Mama! Papa!”

“Amelia, come back!” the nursemaid’s voice sounded behind the doors.

“Asleep, huh?” Lavinia smiled at Sebastian and he hurried to open the door.

Amelia, their three-year-old daughter, rushed into the room and promptly plastered herself to her father.

“Pardon me,” Beatrice, the nursemaid, said from the corridor. “She woke up and insisted on seeing you. But I didn’t—”

“Do not worry Beatrice, go back to bed,” Sebastian said as he picked up Amelia. He closed the door when the nursemaid walked away, and came toward Lavinia.

“I can’t sleep,” Amelia whispered. Then she turned to Lavinia. “I want sleep with mama.”

Lavinia’s smile deepened. It wasn’t common for parents to sleep in the same room as their children, but considering her own childhood, Lavinia wanted to stay as close to Amelia as she could.

It was unheard of to be so attached to one’s child. But Sebastian didn’t mind. He spoiled his daughter more than Lavinia did, and neither of them cared about what others thought about that.

Lavinia rubbed her growing belly. She wanted to have a large family. And she wouldn’t mind if all of them slept in the same bed. “Of course, dear.”

All three of them went to the bed, and Sebastian tucked in his girls before dousing the candles.

“Are you excited about seeing Paris?” Sebastian asked as he settled beneath the covers and hugged both Lavinia and Amelia close to him.

“Very much,” Lavinia said. “But you know what I am most excited about.”

Sebastian smiled against her hair. “Yes, we finally get to see Victoria again.”

The End.
