Chapter 23

“Please!” Lavinia screamed the only word she was able to utter when Sebastian ruthlessly took away the pleasure he’d been building with his skillful fingers.

When he’d started touching her between her legs, she was ready to die of embarrassment. But that feeling was quickly replaced by need, want, pleasure. Her hips moved rhythmically with his fingers, building toward something special. She didn’t know what it was, but she knew it was there, waiting for her if she just chased the feeling.

Just as she was on the precipice of discovering what it was, Sebastian withdrew his hand and took it all away.

Lavinia’s breathing was labored, sweat lined her forehead, and she was utterly frustrated.

Sebastian peppered soothing kisses down her neck. “I am not done with you yet.”

Lavinia placed her palm against his cheek and looked into his emerald green eyes. Her breaths were getting more even, but the ache low in her belly didn’t subside.

Sebastian kissed her lips, biting into her soft flesh, then soothed it with his tongue. Lavinia held him close, trying in her inexpert way to return his kisses.

“I want to see you,” he said hoarsely against her lips, between the kisses. “All of you.”

Lavinia squirmed on the inside.

She had never been naked around anyone before except for her maid. She was afraid he’d be repulsed by her naked form, because of course, he would. She didn’t like her body. How could he?

She’d never felt beautiful even in her clothes.

Except for one moment…

That moment in Sebastian’s little studio when he’d sketched her portrait.

Sebastian lowered his head and bit the upper slope of her breast. Lavinia arched into him, her body craving the closeness. The shift was sticking to her body and making her want to get rid of it.Should I?

He trailed kisses along her exposed flesh, while his hands roamed her body.

She trusted him with her pleasure, and she trusted him not to hurt her.

She trusted him.

But she wasn’t prepared to see the disappointment in his eyes once he’d seen her.

“Douse the candles,” she whispered.

Sebastian raised his head. He looked into her eyes, the question evident on his features.

“I want to feel you,” she said. “But I don’t want you to see me.”

Sebastian’s gaze slid along her body as if remembering her form. He stood and doused the candles one by one.

When darkness enveloped them, Lavinia disposed of her shift in one quick motion. She climbed under the sheets, covering herself up to her chin.

Sebastian chuckled and sat beside her, rubbing his manhood in his hand. She watched him curiously in the dark. How did this perfect man, so strong and beautiful, end up in bed with her?

It was surreal.

“I wish you could see yourself the way I see you,” he whispered.

I wish so, too.

Lavinia swallowed. She really wished she knew what he was thinking. About her and this entire situation. What he was feeling at the moment. What prompted his every action.

But he dipped his head and kissed her, and all her thoughts evaporated. Nothing mattered anymore except his kiss, his touch, and the passion between them.
