“Sir.”

I turned back to see the three of them waiting. Balduin nodded. “It’s done, sir.”

“She agreed? That easily?” I pressed.

“Before the palace assistant could even offer, she demanded to see you,” Elling replied. “Apparently, she’s been waiting for your call.”

I cracked my jaw to the side. Was that what this was? A ploy to get her to me to speak to her? She was playing with me, and my reputation…the monarchy’s reputation?

“I want this done very discretely. Iskandar, have her thoroughly checked. I don’t care if you need her to bloody strip down. There needs to be no proof I ever met her in case she ever decides to speak on it. I will see her, ask her what she wants, and if it is not possible or reasonable, then…” I trailed off.

“Then what, sir?” Elling questioned.

“We will use the press against her also,” I finally said the words; there was a slight ping of shame in me, but I pushed it down. This was too important. “Now, if you all will excuse me, I need to see my wife.”

“Sir…”

“What?” I snapped at Balduin.

“Sir, I wanted to introduce you to the film crew that will be filming you and the queen. Maybe have them take a few videos and photos? Also, we still have things to discuss the—”

“No to all of it right now. Give us both a moment before you shove cameras back in our faces. Whatever we need to do, let’s do it an hour before we are to arrive. Until then, you all prepare or relax if you’re able,” I said to them before walking to the end of the car and opening the door, expecting to see her somewhere in the drawing room with Wolfgang.

However, Wolfgang sat drinking tea in front of his computer alone. The moment he saw me, he rose, almost bumping his leg and nearly spilling the tea. “Sir.”

“Where is Odette?” I asked him.

“The bedroom, sir,” he said, putting his cup down.

“She’s been in there the whole time?”

“I believe she’s reading your letters.”

My letters?

My eyes widened as I remembered everything I had planned!

Shit.

Quickly I walked back to the bedroom. I wanted to be next to her, to explain, to read them to her, to have this one romantic moment with her. When the doors opened, I wasn’t sure what I was expecting, but the sight of her nearly hanging off the bed, her head close to the door, with half my letters around her, was not it.

“May I ask what you are doing?” I bit my cheek to keep from laughing.

“Trying to keep tears out of my eyes because you play dirty!” she snapped.

“Once again, bevilën, I think you are mixing it up. The word you are looking for is romantic.” I smiled, closing the door behind me.

She sat up quickly and glared at me for only a second before she was up and nearly into my arms, kissing me. I wrapped my arms around her, holding her to me.

“This was very sweet of you.”

“I know.” I grinned, lifting up the hem of her dress.

“Gale, we have—”

“Three hours,” I whispered, kissing the side of her neck, making her shiver.

“The windows—”
