“I know. You are happy with whatever I decide.”

“As my lady wishes.”

Georgiana rolled her eyes good-naturedly. “You know very well I am Mrs. Harris now, and have been for many months.”

They had wed as soon as Henry’s bruises healed, though, to his disappointment, he remained unscarred. It couldn’t have been more different from Georgiana’s first wedding, or more perfect. The ceremony was held in the small stone church of the Kentish village where she had grown up, with only their siblings in attendance. She wore a muslin and lace day gown with daisies in her hair, while Henry wore his tan suit at her request. They both had tears in their eyes as they recited their vows, and when he slipped the simple gold band over her finger, it was as if a missing piece of herself had finally been snapped into place. This was followed by a long, lazy supper filled with laugher and stories and far too much wine in the back garden of their family home. The one Georgiana had given up so much to keep. But as she had stared up at the three-story home that held so many memories, both joyful and crushing, a feeling of contentment settled over her. The twisted path her life had taken had been worth the journey in the end, for it had led her back to him.

“Of course,” Henry said. “I was there when we married.” Then his fingers slipped under her chin to gently tilt her face up. “But I’m afraid you’ll always be my lady to me,” he murmured.

She gave her husband an indulgent smile. “I suppose I can endure a lifetime of your gallantry.”

“It is but a paltry trade for the pleasure of your company.” Henry’s amber gaze then lingered on her mouth as his eyes filled with heat. “Shall I ask Jack to take the long way home?”

Georgiana pulled him closer until their lips nearly touched. “Yes, Captain. Please do.”
