“I love you,” he murmurs. He says it easily, naturally, as if we’ve always said that to each other. Tilting my head up to stare into his deep blue gaze, I know it’s true. We’ve always loved each other.

“I love you so much, Koda.”

“Thank fuck,” he breaths out, making me giggle. His lips turn up on one side in the sweetest, sexiest little grin.

ELEVEN

Koda

I pace around my bedroom going over the proposal in my head. It’s silly that Salem has been my mate for weeks and doesn’t have my ring on her finger, but that ends today.

It took far too long to find the perfect ring for my queen, but she deserves the very best. Now I just need her to say yes. She’s already my mate, of course. I remind her of that every day. But I need her to be my wife. It should be a no-brainer, but tell that to the knot of anxiety that kept me up all night.

Her cute little feet shuffle against the castle floor, my wolf perking up at the familiar sound.

“I was summoned?” she says playfully as she waltzes into the room. Her smile drops when she sees me. Yikes, do I look that bad? “What’s wrong?”

She rushes over to me, and I wrap her up in my arms. “Nothing,” I assure her. “Well, just one thing, and I’m hoping you can fix it for me.”

Salem leans back, tilting her head to the side as she studies me. God, I’ll never get used to her beauty. Green eyes shine with what I hope is love.

Untangling myself from her, I slide down to my knees. Her eyes go wide, and then she smirks. I can’t wait to hear whatever sassy remark she has for me.

“I heard kings don’t kneel for anyone,” she teases.

“Whoever told you that must have been a stuck-up asshole.”

She laughs, making my heart light. “He’s a recovering jerk-aholic, but so far, he’s been a good boy.”

I grin at her, then take a deep breath, pushing forward. “I’d like the chance to be your good boy forever.” I grimace at the words that just came out of my mouth. Salem gives me a weird look, then a cute little smile. “I mean, uh, what I’m trying to say is… shit, I love you, Salem. We had a rough start, and it was all my fault. I was an idiot, who listened to all the wrong–”

“Koda,” comes her soft, soothing voice. “I already forgave you.”

God, she’s incredible.

“I know. Thank you. I’m just… I’m a little out of my element here.” I laugh nervously, and Salem rests her hand on my cheek. I gather her delicate hand up in my much larger one, kissing her palm and then slipping the emerald ring on her finger.

Salem takes a deep breath and holds it. Her eyes close as she slowly lets it out. Then, she stares right at me, those deep green eyes electrifying me, captivating me, squeezing my heart, and refusing to let go.

“I love you with everything I am,” I confess. “I want you in every single way. My mate, my wife, the mother of my children. Will you do me that honor?”

Tears form and fall, but my mate smiles at me, letting me know they are happy tears.

"I love you," she whispers. "Of course, I'll marry you. You're my mate."

Salem gives me the sweetest, most genuine smile. I can't even explain the swell of emotions rising up in me. It feels like I just might explode with joy, gratitude, and unworthiness.

I rise to my feet, cradling Salem in my arms. “I love you too, mate,” I whisper back. “I’m so sorry about how I treated you in the beginning.”

“I know. I forgive you.”

“God, I don’t deserve you, but I promise I’ll never betray you again. Just don’t leave me, Salem. Can you do that for me?”

She nods and then leans in for a kiss, our mouths drawn together like magnets. Shuffling our way to the bed, I sit down, pulling her curvy little body on top of mine as she tangles her hands in my hair. She pulls me closer, her kiss becoming frantic.

My wolf lunges for my throat, needing to be with our mate, as desperate for her as I am.

Slow, I remind myself as much as my wolf.
