"All I'm saying, dear, is that maybe, he's changed his mind now?"

"After nine years?" I deadpanned, rolling my eyes. Concussions made me testy, apparently. "Mom, just drop it,please. It's hurtful to keep bringing it up. He doesn't like me like that despite my feelings. I'm sorry your and Mrs. Fischer's plans of a joint wedding aren't going to happen. We’re friends, end of discussion. Can't that be good enough?"

I hadn’t realized I was on the verge of tears until she pulled me into her arms. My soapy hands got her all wet as I hugged her, but she didn't seem to mind. Tears fell as my mother held me, and I blamed it on the head wound. I'd grieved years ago, so why was I getting so emotional about it again?

I was chalking it up to today having been a weird day.

"Oh, honey. I never meant to make you sad. I just see how you both look at each other and the love that's there. I just want you to be happy, though, so I’ll drop the Simon thing."

“Thanks, Mom. I think I’m just going to lay down. Are you okay with finishing?”

“Yes, honey. Go rest. I’ll check on you in a few.

Wiping my nose, I walked back to my room, not in the mood for any company. Logging onto my computer. I checked my blog site to see how my views were today on my last blog post.

Just as I finished scanning the page, a new message popped up on a post I’d done last week.

Unrequited love or Fated Mates? Which is your poison?

Blue_eye_rescue:Hi! I love your insight. Thanks for the great book recs! Fated Mates are my favorite.

Ah, well that was nice. Deciding to reply, I typed in a message.

noxbooks_tats_&_badboys:Thank you,I just love to read! Happy to meet a fellow reader!

The ping came through quickly, surprising me and I found a message waiting in my DM’s. Well, they didn’t waste any time sliding up them. I swear every time I thought I met a genuine reader, it would be some creep who’d send me a dick pic. Tapping on the message, I squinted to avoid having my retinas burned by a stranger’s dong. Surprisingly, it was an actual message. In fact, it was kind of a letter. Opening my eyes fully, I began to read it.

Hey Nox Books,

Hopefully it’s okay for me to shorten your name, if that is your name. I just didn’t want to type out the full thing, but if that’s what you prefer then I will. Thank you for responding back, this is my first time on a blog site, and I wasn’t sure what the procedure was.

I do appreciate your book recs and the insight you have into the characters. I especially like the art you add with it. It brings the story to life in a whole new way by seeing how you saw it.

Well, I hope you have a good night. It was nice to meet you.

B.E.R.

My finger hovered over the reply button, and I debated whether or not it was prudent to respond. Simon’s laughter drifting down the hall for some reason had me pushing it. I remembered my determination the other night, tired of feeling alone, or waiting on someone to find me worthy enough to pursue. Perhaps it was the ordeal of this day, or maybe it was just my own mortality staring me in the face, the trip to the hospital reminding me how short life could be. I was done waiting on the sidelines.

Hey B.E.R.!

Hope it’s okay to call you that. Nox suits me fine as well. Welcome to the site! I’m not too crazy or fancy, but I’m pleased you like my concept. It’s really the perfect way for me to combine a lot of my loves. Let me know which book you read and what you think. Look forward to discussing more with you.

Nox

Signing off, I slumped back into my chair, picking my book back up from where I’d stopped earlier. I could always depend on a book to send me into a magical world.

Knock Nox,
