“Oh.”

“Yes, Peach?” He waited, staring at me intently, and I found myself falling into his deep eyes.

Hot Fudge Sundae! A girl could get used to being stared at like that.

Moving my hand, I smoothed the skin between his eyes as he watched me, until his eyes fluttered closed. His eyelashes were so long against his face and I wanted to pet them. Simon cleared his throat, bringing me back to the present, dropping my hand. I expected Slade to set me down, but he didn’t. Instead, he turned and placed my feet on the bench, pushing me in toward Simon. Sitting down. I suddenly found myself in the best type of sandwich—S&S. I think I was going to need to steal Bab's moniker for them so I didn’t have a tongue twister every time I tried to say their names.

The only tongue twister I wanted was below. Giggles erupted out of me, my earlier dirty thoughts also rising to the surface. I wonder what I could make S&S stand for.

Slip & Slide

Salty & Sweet

Start & Stop

Sweet & Sour

Strip & Stare

Supply & Service

Short & Sweet

Though, there wasn’t anything short either of them had. Hiding my reddening face, I turned and hugged Simon, needing his comfort after the emotional upheaval the night before. I still couldn’t wrap my head around everything that had been spilled. When I pulled back, he looked at me oddly.

Sugar sticks! I wasn’t supposed to be all handsy with them.Friends,Lennox, Friends.

“Don’t take this the wrong way, but you look like shit, Lenn. Did you not sleep okay?”

“Thanks, Si.” I rolled my eyes, thankful the waitress walked over to take our drink orders before I had to answer anything else. It also gave me time to put some boundaries in place since I seemed to be struggling with remembering they were friends only.

“How y’all doing today? What can I get you started with, suggas?”

“Water” was chorused out, and I found myself giggling again. Slap-happy was a real thing, folks. She smiled, nodding, before turning to retrieve our drinks.

“Peach,” he breathed into my neck, and I abruptly stopped the giggles as he trailed a finger down my arm. “Not that I don’t love hearing the sound of your giggles, but what’s going on?”

The low rumble of his words had my body freezing as tingles spread up along my arm and body. Simon moved in closer on the other side. And I found myself wishing we weren’t in a restaurant. My lack of sleep clouded my judgment, deleted any hesitancy to give in, and allowed my hormones and arousal to take control.

Swallowing, I breathed through my mouth, attempting to give myself clean air, free of the intoxicating scents of Simon and Slade. Seriously, I needed a name. Two S’s were going to become troublesome. S&S it was. I’d keep what it stood for to myself. Their smells together were a deadly combination I found hard to resist. Once I cleared my head of the desire, I was able to respond to their questions.

“Yeah, um. I don’t know if everything’s fine, per se. I didn’t get much sleep last night because I was up till 5 am with Zane.”

Of course, that was the wrong thing to say without context! A low growl emitted from Slade and had the opposite effect he intended. He was so close to my neck when he spoke that his lips brushed the sensitive area on my skin, hitting me straight on my lady bits below, revving me up more.

“Who thefuckis Zane?”

Even Simon tensed next to me, and I realized my mistake. “Oh, yeah, aboutthat,” I hedged, cringing. Before I could finish my explanation, he announced himself.

“That would be me, Brother.”

Slade whipped his head around abruptly, the hand I hadn’t noticed tightened on my leg for a second before he released it, springing out of the booth to hug his brother.

“Thane! What the fuck, man? I’ve been trying to get a hold of you. Where the hell have you been?” He pulled back, checking Zane over for a second, calculating his appearance head to toe. I saw his actions now for what they were. Slade was checking him over for injuries or things that might’ve changed in his absence, his mother’s illness and departure having created a desperate need to notice every detail. My tired brain fixated on it, and I slumped back into Simon’s embrace, his arm pulling me close as we watched them.

When Slade was satisfied with his assessment, his look of joy dropped, and he glanced back to me and then to his brother, letting go of him as he stepped back, a look of hurt crossing his face.

“I can’t believe it. Peach wasright. You’ve been lying to me for months. You’ve been here this whole time, haven’t you?”
