“The most, why, aren’t you?”

“No, I am. I just wanted to make sure you were too.”

“Lenn, I get to be with the two people I care about. It’s the life I’ve always wanted.”

“I just don’t want to lose us, I guess.”

“How can we lose us?”

“I guess I’m just worried with Slade and Zane in the mix that you could feel left out.”

“Nah, don’t you see, it’s perfect. When you’re with Thane, I can hang with Slade, and when you’re with him, I can have alone time or get to know Thane better. The pressure to be perfect is removed, and I can develop other deep relationships simultaneously. I’m not losing anything. In fact, I’m gaining so much more.”

“I like the way you think about it.”

“Good. Now, hold still, and lean forward.”

Following the familiar routine, I gave in to his ministrations as he tilted my head, cutting the ends. A few hours later, I found myself with a kaleidoscope of colors, my hair looking like an ombre rainbow peacock.

“Wow! That’s amazing, Si. I love it!”

“I figured you could use a change. Liven it up a bit. Plus, I’ve been dying to try out this new technique.”

“Well, it will be perfect for my costume too. Speaking of, we should gather the others and get dressed. I’ll tell Noah to be ready as well.”

Texting my brother, I was glad I didn’t have to worry about any of my messages being received by Adam. We’d all gotten new phones and changed all of our passwords, hoping to keep him out of our business.

Picking up the pile of clothes, I quickly changed and then walked into the room to give the twins theirs.

“No.” Slade shook his head, not even willing to hear me out as I showed him the costume.

“Come on, please.”

“I’ll wear it,” Zane agreed, walking over to take the one I had for him.

Simon walked in wearing his, a smile on his face. “I knew he wouldn’t go for it,” he teased, kissing Slade on the cheek before he whispered something in his ear. Slade’s eyes heated as he shifted on his feet, dropping his arms and defensive position.

“Fine. One hour, no pictures.”

Squealing, I jumped up and handed him the costume. The twins were changed a few minutes later, and we headed out together.

“This costume is ridiculous.”

“Oh hush, you’re a great Buddy Blue.”

Noah laughed as we walked toward the maze, finding our interactions hilarious. He’d gone as Captain America, his shield in one hand and his bucket for candy in the other. The smile on his face as we approached was worth it.

“What are you guys, again?” he asked. Noah had been quiet on the drive, still not used to Zane. Dad had talked with him about how the guy he met as Thane wasn’t the real one, but it seemed to make him extra cautious toward Zane now.

“Whipped, that’s what,” mumbled Slade as he adjusted his blue pants. Since we hadn’t had much time to prepare, Simon and I had kept it simple and color-coded our outfits, allowing us to go as characters from Rainbow Brite, one of my favorite classic cartoons. Slade was Buddy Blue, Simon was Canary Yellow, and Zane was Red Butler. They were dressed head to toe in their respective colors, and I was Rainbow Brite. It was no surprise I had a rainbow skirt or Rainbow Brite t-shirt, so mine had been simple. I was good to go by adding some old snow boots, colorful tights, and a ponytail on top of my new rainbow hair.

“Rainbow Brite, bud.”

“Ah,” he shook his head, smiling at me. “Still, no clue.”

“You hurt me with your words.”
