What I’m trying to say is, despite knowing one another better than anyone else, I’m not going to take that for granted. Just because I know you, doesn’t mean I’m not going to stillgetto know you. I know you as Lennox my bestie, not Lennox my girlfriend. What I’m realizing though is I suck at writing words, so I hope you accept this letter for what it is.

I’m glad we made it through everything and are here to keep pushing through together. I know life will be different now. For so long, it’s been the Lennox and Simon show. I didn’t mind that you didn’t really have serious boyfriends because it meant I got to be the main man in your life. But now, not only do we have to figure out our relationship, but us with Slade. And then you and Thane. I know I can’t have all your time anymore. That makes me sad, but also excited for you.

It’s also going to be a new experience having a boyfriend. That’s something I’ve never had. What do I even do with that?

Life hasn’t always been easy, but it’s always been you and me. I want that for the rest of our lives. You, me and the grumpy one. I love you Lennox.

Best Friends make the best lovers. Never forget who made you squirt.

Love,

Your dork

The phone rang, rousing me from my daydream, and I blinked before looking at the caller ID. Smiling, I answered quickly.

“Hey, Mom. What’s up?”

“Hey honey, I was just calling to see how you were doing?”

It was almost a week after everything had happened with Adam and for the most part, I was dealing.

“I’m okay, still a little paranoid at times, but it’s lessening. The reporters are a bit much, but yeah, you know. The guys are awesome though. I’m glad I have them.”

“That’s good to hear, sweetie. The media’s been camping out here too, the vultures. It just makes me worried for you. Though, I’m selfishly glad you’re back. I’ve missed you, honey. ”

“No need to worry, Mom. I promise I’m better. I’ve missed you too. How’s Noah? Anything to worry about there?”

“Oh, he’s fine. He’s been telling everyone how his sister is a hero even if she is rainbow. I swear,” she laughed, “the things he comes up with. You’re the talk of the middle school.”

“For Pete’s sake!” I laughed. “I had enough of that when I was there.”

We talked for another ten minutes about a new project she was working on, and Noah’s current obsession with ant farms. I made plans to go over later in the week for dinner. I’d been surprised how well they’d taken the foursome I’d found myself in. But being the awesome parents they were, they accepted it without question.

Setting my phone back down, I was surprised when Slade came into the room a few seconds later and picked me up. A yelp left me, but Slade didn’t say anything, just scooped me up and hauled me from the chair I’d been sitting in most of the day.

I’d been a bit lost lately, not knowing how to act after everything. I didn’t currently have a job since it had caught fire, and leaving the house to do anything had become a nightmare, with everyone and their brother wanting the inside scoop on my stalker.

Even Shelley had reached out, wanting to see how I was, only to minutes later probe me for the inside scoop. She was a reporter, so at least it made sense. The lady at the checkout line? Not so much. Everyone wanted something from me, and not all of it was good. That was one of the things about small towns I hadn’t missed while living in Nashville. No one knew you there, and if they did, they minded their own darn business.

Slade continued carrying me without saying a word until we made it to the garage. “We’re going out, Peach. No more sulking, no more sitting around staring at the window and sighing, and especially no more hiding out in this house. We’re going out.”

“Well, when you put it that way.” I smiled, my hands naturally grazing the hair at the nape of his neck. The grin he leveled me with had me squirming. Glancing down at my outfit, I figured it would work. I had on a band tee that I’d knotted on the side, a long tulle skirt, and a pair of chucks. It was comfy and made for a good sitting around the house and looking forlornly out the window.

A door opened behind me, and I was placed in the arms of Simon, who was sitting in the backseat.

“I can walk, you know? I’m not going to run away. I’m good with this plan.”

“We know, Lenn. It’s just more fun this way.”

“You’re so weird.”

“Yep, proud of it too,” he bragged, sticking out his tongue.

The other doors closed, and I turned to the front, seeing the twins buckling themselves in. I scooted off Simon’s lap and latched my seatbelt excitedly.

“So, where are we going?”

“Where else does one go on Saturday night in this town?”
