BOSS: There’s a situation. Come back by before you leave.

ME: Got it, on our way.

Opening the door, I placed my phone on the stand, turning to my heart, ignoring the brute in the back. I didn’t hate him as much as I acted, but I felt it was better to make him think I did, at least.

“Mas wants us to stop by first. There’s been a situation.”

“What about?” Nat asked, turning in the seat.

I shrugged, starting the car. “No clue. Boss says to come in. I come in. It’s how it works, cupcake.” I winked, hoping she understood what she was getting herself into. I wasn’t opposed to her joining. It would make it easier in a lot of ways. But it made me extremely nervous for her, too. However, I didn’t think it was any less dangerous if she wasn’t in at this point.

Glancing into the rearview, I met his eyes. “This is your chance to make a stand with us, or you can stay in the car like a dirty secret.”

“It sounds like you’re accepting me joining our little trio.”

I glanced over at Nat, her face serious as she watched me. “I’m serious about her, so whatever it takes. If you’re with us, you’re with us. But I understand if you’re not willing to make that commitment. It does scare most guys.” I smirked, my dig not that subtle.

“Oh, I’m not scared.” He sat up, leaning between the seats. “You’re on, big man. I’ll come up and show you and all those men I’m here for the long haul.”

“Okay.” I smiled, curious to how he’d be under Sax’s gaze, or even Loren’s, for that matter.

Nat extended her hand back to him, happy he was joining in. I might dislike him being here, but I couldn’t deny how he made her happy.

The drive over wasn’t long. We parked and were headed up within a few minutes. When we stepped into the hotel suite, the noise led us to the boardroom. It was beginning to become the most essential part of this place and needed to be renamed the war room.

The first thing I noticed was the guard who’d helped us escape with Cami standing with his arms crossed against the wall. Atticus stood, watching him. Looked like our extra guest wouldn’t be the most surprising, after all.

“Cami?” Nat asked when we walked in, and I realized what I should’ve. If he was here, did that mean something had happened with Delgado? Had Cami been taken?

“Right here, Bish.” Cami leaned forward, waving at us. Her eyes went big when she took in the three of us. “Well, I guess I’m not the only one bringing lovers to the table.”

The whole room turned, looking at the three of us.

“Explain,” Atticus shouted, turning to me. “Is this just bring whoever the fuck you want to work week or something?”

“Mr. Mascro, it’s a pleasure to meet you. I’ve worked at your establishment for the past six months.” Byron walked forward, holding his hand out to The Suit. Atticus was in full boss mode, and he regarded the man he didn’t know with a look of calculated intrigue.

“While that’s all well and fine, but why are you here?”

“Oh, he’s with me.” Nat stepped up, taking his hand. “It’s kind of a long story, but he was going to kill me once but didn’t and has been saving me since.”

The room gasped at the killing part, and I heard Cami hiss, “You have a lot to explain, woman!”

“The important part is that I didn’t,” Byron said, finally dropping the hand that Atticus hadn’t shaken.

Mas dropped his head, rubbing his temple. “Is this bizarro day? First, we have a Delgado guard walk into our base, and now a hired killer? Unless you have information on the whereabouts of Jude, I’ll have to deal with you later. Sit.”

Nat took a seat, and I went to my position against the wall, falling into my role. I was surprised when Byron stood next to me, taking on my stance as well.

“You’re right. This is more fun,” he whispered. Ignoring him, I tried to piece together what was happening from the rest of the room. Loren sat at the table with Wells, the dogs at their feet. Nicco and Sax were missing. Cami was next to Loren, Pixel, and Imogen, taking up the last seats on her side. Nat sat next to Monroe, leaving one empty spot.

“Continue,” Atticus said to the guard, folding his arms, listening.

“I know a way into the facility. I can help.”

“How do I know I can trust you? You used to work for Darren.”

“I did, but it was a means to an end. Darren had been suspicious of me since he caught my interest in Camila. When she went missing, I was the one in the hallway, waking up the guard, but he couldn’t pin anything on me. The guard knew I wasn’t the one to knock him out, but it didn’t mean Darren still didn’t think I was involved. When he was taken into custody, and the Masked Kingpin stepped in, I knew my days were numbered.”
