NATALIE

Finally, the big dummy I’d given the sleeping agent to passed out, and I sighed in relief. He’d been getting handsier as the night went on, and I was beginning to think I hadn’t given him enough. Picking up my phone, I walked to the door and sent the text, unlocking it.

To no surprise, the door immediately opened, and I stared back at the last person I wanted to be on a mission with.

Rolling my eyes, I walked back toward my date and started to get ready for the rescue. Pulling off his shirt, I tossed it on the floor and swallowed as I went to do his shoes, socks, and pants. Beau stood back, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, watching me. Heaving the behemoth up, I grunted in exertion as I tried to position him under the covers.

“A little help, partner?” I didn’t hide the frustration or annoyance I felt. Beau was always there, and I couldn’t shake him. Ever since he stole that orgasm, it was like he was blatantly in my face, staring at me.

For instance, on this mission, despite asking Atticus for anyone else, Beau was there. When I needed a lookout, Beau was there. When I was at the safe house, Beau was there.

Beau. Beau. Beau.

That didn’t even take into account that every time I met with Loren or happened to be around the compound, he was always over my shoulder.

At this point, I was beginning to suspect he’d placed a LoJack on me. If he wanted to annoy me, he’d done it, and I was about to punch him in the face.

“I’m glad you acknowledge that you need me.”

“I don’t needyou, just someone. In fact, I specifically asked for anyone butyou.” I narrowed my eyes at him, but he only smiled.

“I told you I wasn’t giving up, cupcake.”

“That’s the stupidest nickname.”

I rolled my eyes as we lifted the heavyweight boxer and pulled the sheet over him. Grimacing, I reached under and pulled down his boxers and tossed them to the floor. Doing a full-body shiver, I didn’t miss Beau chuckling at me from behind.

“I could’ve done that. You know, if you’d asked for help?”

Huffing, I pulled the note I’d written out of my bag, and placed it on the table before I headed to the restroom. After being near his balls, I needed to change and wash my hands.

Beau picked up the letter, reading it out loud. “Chad, it was great. Keep in touch. Sara.” He laughed, looking at me. “Really?”

I shrugged, closing the door behind me. I didn’t want to see the guy again but felt if I just disappeared without something, he’d know he’d been had, and I for one, didn’t want him looking me up again. I knew Beau was trying to get to me, and I hated that it was working, but I wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of knowing that it was. If he wanted to be an annoying nuisance, then I’d just keep ignoring him while I imagined kicking him in the balls. I’d done it for eight years already; I could do it for more.

Pulling up the black pants, I sighed in relief to be out of that dress. I didn’t know how Cami did it. I much preferred to be in clothes I could move in, so dresses were not my thing. They did have their advantages at times; the memory of Beau sliding into me from behind rose up, making me blush, but I pushed it aside to no-man’s-land where it belonged.

Walking out, I pulled on the gloves and fastened the bag to me, scanning the room. Thankfully, despite him being insufferable, he wasn’t slacking on the job. Everything I’d touched had been wiped clean as he finished off the table. The room looked like a man and woman had a good time and nothing else.

“Thanks.”

He nodded and shoved the rag into his pocket, pulling out his own cap to cover his hair. It was a crime to hide his beautiful chestnut locks, but it was for the best. When he pulled out a gun, I stiffened, looking up at him.

“It’s just in case. I don’t plan on using it.”

Slowly, I nodded, swallowing. The one thing I liked about being a thief, I didn’t have to use guns. Guns, quite frankly, scared me. It made it seem more serious, and maybe that was the flaw with stealing. I could convince myself it was a game like my dad used to, and it didn’t feel as real.

Taking a deep breath, I centered myself, urging all the adrenaline that had rushed through me to slow down, so I didn’t mess up. Now was not the time to screw up. Cami depended on me.

“How did you get into the compound, anyway?” I asked, eyeing Beau as we walked down a hall.

“It’s a secret.” He looked down at his watch and then started forward. “Camera’s down for five minutes. We need to go.”

Huffing, I peeked around the corner, quelling the urge to constantly roll my eyes at him. The hallway I’d gleaned from the staff where Cami was, stood before us. It had taken a few visits to the Delgado place to find anything, and I was glad something had finally slipped, or I wouldn’t have been able to hold off the Berserker much longer. A shudder ran through me at the thought, and Beau moved nearer, almost out of instinct.

Fuck. Why did I like it so much?
