“Got it.” Stone started to march towards the elevators, ignoring the whispered words being spoken as a scattered walkway appeared. “You're clever, too. Dawson needs brains as well…” He licked his smarmy lips, drawing his eyes up and down the length of my body as I turned in repulsion. “As well as someone good on the eyes. It's a pity he can't play by the rules.”

“Fuck the rules, he's his own man,” I shouted out, watching spit land into his face. I swallowed loudly, thinking ‘oh crap Everleigh, you’ve done it now’. He wiped the spit with a green handkerchief he pulled out of his pocket.

Not only was I scared but also embarrassed as our shouting match had garnished many onlookers. Some I recognized as clients but others more nervously as colleagues. They all just stood back, watching the show with nobody daring to step forward and approach us. Which concerned me more than I was willing to let show. Did people know more about this man than I did or is it they just didn’t like pushing into other people’s business? So much for security, I thought before Stone’s voice rang out loudly in my ear.

“Now, that wasn't very nice.” He leaned in, digging his fingers into my hip this time, abusing my skin. I struggled to conceal my whimper from the depths of my throat. Damn that man had a strong powerful grip. “He won't disobey my rules for much longer, my future daughter in law.”

Stone pressed the button of the elevator and ensured with one look at the people who stood waiting that we were not going to be interrupted.

“I think it's time we paid my son a visit.”

Dawson

Can this day get any worse? The communications in this building were on the blink in my temporary office but Cerys’, the assistant based here, system across the hall worked perfectly well. What was the issue with finding problems here? Tye had seriously let the team down.It was as if someone had pinpointed my line and made sure it was severed. The conspicuous thoughts kept increasing in my head, but I always drew a dead end. I had thought of moving rooms but then they had already been pre booked out for the day, which meant my trusted cell had become my new line of communication.

The day had started by reading through my emails, sorting them into sectors of importance. My arm was getting achy and sore from the continuous straining of lifting my cell up and down to my ear; the damn speakerphone system never seemed to carry voices loud enough in my opinion. The moment I got a break in calls I grabbed the opportunity and rang the UK office; anyone else could hang fire for ten minutes.

“Candy, can you personally visit Del Granbler and ask him to contact me when convenient?” I asked, ensuring I released as little information as possible about my reasons. The last few weeks had been quiet and I wanted an update of sorts, even if it was fruitless. I hadn't wanted my gut’s reaction to be right and for whatever reason I had been kept out of the loop previously, it was occurring again. “I mean personally, Candy.”

“Yes, sir. Anything else?” she asked whilst I moved my cell away from my ear, wondering who needed me so badly to be blowing up and causing the constant buzzing alert from repeated emails.

“Got to go, Candy, sort it.”

I dropped my cell and gazed at the screen, the tick in my jaw starting to annoy me.

Message: Everleigh – 911

I knew Freddie was on the desk today but I wondered why he would message me about Everleigh until I noticed the screen on my cell light up and I saw her name, my Belle. I clicked the screen and dropped it to the floor. My chest started to tighten and each breath felt harder to take.

Message – 911

I stormed towards the door and prised it open, nearly pulling it off its hinges before I looked around the corner, searching out my assistant. The burning in my eyes started to increase. Where the fuck was she?

“Cerys! Cerys!” I screamed, just as the elevator pinged with an arrival. “We’ll talk about this later, but go and get security, now.”

“There will be no need for that,” the voice commanded as my past was brought to the forefront of my eyes. I stumbled backwards, grateful for the wall taking my weight behind me. Stone Parker, he knew I was here.Everleigh...

I lifted my head, my heart already knowing he had got to my girl as her tear-stained face appeared next to him and my resolve crumbled away to pieces. The moment I saw his hands digging into her wrists as he stepped into the reception, I felt the anger bubbling. Cerys reappeared from around the corner behind the pair of them, jaw stricken and panicked with fear. She hid in the alcove area before she was seen.Where was she going?I didn't have time to worry about her as I watched the evil glint in Stone’s eye as he dug deeper into Everleigh’s wrist, assessing my reaction.

I took controlled steps forward into his body space and stood nose to nose, making my point clear. He wasn't going to intimidate me on my own territory. He was in my world now. He would play by my rules.

“Get your hands off her now, before I rip each of those slimy fingers off and break them in the process!” I demanded, leaning in and mentally counting to three before I acted on my threat.

Stone rolled his eyes before I noticed the glint left behind.Fucker.The moment he dropped her wrist she ran hard into my chest and I wrapped my arm around her shoulders and kissed the top of her head. Everleigh’s tears ran wild down her face, soaking through my shirt whilst I comforted her in the best way I could. All while the devil incarnate stood before me.

“I've got you, baby… it’s okay,” I whispered, ignoring his presence in front of me as he started to tap his foot, manically trying to invoke my attention.

“Office?” he questioned, cocking his head to the side before my eyes met his narrowed ones. He rubbed his hand along his stubbled jaw line before the cocky smirk played out across his face. “I think it's better if we talk alone.”

“Who are you to make demands in my hotel?” I commanded, causing a group of suited officials who were leaving the conference room to turn their heads at the sound of the commotion.

“Because…” He looked at everyone walking down the corridor towards us and then up and down at Everleigh, cocking his brow. “You don’t want me causing anymore collateral damage here.”
