The EMT’s were just doing their jobs after all. They were worried about her ribs and were concerned her broken wrist may be misplaced. She most probably had another concussion, and the fact there wasn’t an argument from Everleigh had me agreeing to go to be checked out. I wanted to hear the sass I was so used to leave her mouth, but I knew her mind was reeling from what had just occurred.

We arrived in the Emergency Room where Everleigh had her cast removed and arm re x-rayed. With her new cast fitted, she finally had her laceration cleaned and stitched. Eventually, she was moved upstairs to a private room where she would be assessed on the severity of yet another concussion. I, on the other hand, had a mere sprained ankle and scrapes from the gravel, so was able to stay with Everleigh. I felt so much guilt. Tye was dead, Everleigh had multiple issues, thankfully not life threatening, and me, a tiny little sprain.

How was that fair? How did I deserve such minimal damage but everything else around me had fallen to pieces, damaged and destroyed thanks to one fucking person? To top it all off, I was the one unscathed by it all the most physically, but when everything mentally hits, I don’t know the state I would be in.

I couldn’t understand how everything turned bad so fast. As I turned to get Everleigh a glass of water, Nurse Williamson walked in.

“Everleigh, I saw your name and knew it was you,” she spoke with a soft smile.

“Nurse Williamson, it’s lovely to see you. I’m sorry it’s under these circumstances, can we tell you later what happened? It’s been a long night and we’re still coming to terms with the loss of a… friend,” Everleigh whispered, a single tear falling from her eyes. “Our friend died tonight.”

“Oh, sweetheart. I’m so very sorry for your loss. Let me just take your observations and I’ll leave you with your man,” she replied, gathering the chart from the edge of my bed.

“Thank you,” I said. “We’d appreciate that.”

Epilogue

Dawson

Six months later

Time had flown by. Del agreed to go back and be my eyes behind the scenes at the UK branches. Except everything felt out of sorts. Where once I would've given anything to be in New York again; now, it was tainted. Everleigh thought I hadn’t noticed, but since the showdown with Stone and then Tye’s death, I saw things differently. We seemed to both be doing our daily tasks automatically. Nothing had any meaning anymore. I’d noticed her constantly looking over her shoulder, never relaxing. Everleigh didn’t chat with her friends like before. Freddie had made a few comments of his concerns about how quiet she’d become. Even at the sentencing where Stone received a life sentence for the murder of my mother and the attempted murder of Everleigh, she seemed liked she was living in another world, even life maybe.

My mother’s remains were found buried in the garden of our old home where Stone had let it slip in anger. That fact changed me forever, realizing my mother hadn’t left me with the devil as I’d always believed. It gave me guilt for thinking badly of her. Everleigh made me see that she loved me and would understand it was Stone’s deception that made me feel that way. I now felt at peace after that conversation.

I am so lucky to have Everleigh in my life.

“Belle…”

“What's wrong?” she asked, noticing the stiffness in my joints. Her hands seized as they ran over my muscles. I held her back to look at me.

“New York,” I said, reaching up and placing my hand around the back of her neck. “Is it still your home?”

“Honestly?” She leaned into my touch, moving her hand up towards my neck. Her eyelashes fluttered before she showed me her tear-filled eyes. “It used to be… but now? No.”

I gulped hard before I took a step forward, moving my head to the side, closer towards her mouth.

“How would you feel about moving to the UK?”

Her mouth crashed down onto mine as her tongue pushed against the seam, begging for acceptance. Our tongues dueled, lapping against one another as our deep moans took over. My cock twitched at the sounds, desperate for more. Our breaths were heavy as I ran my hands through her hair, tangling the strands until she pulled away. We both gasped for breath as our hearts raced.

“Was that an answer?” I asked, looking at her swollen pink lips and her fingers touching them.

“Yes, it was… let's do it,” she replied with a twinkle in her eye.

“Everleigh Acton, get those clothes off and into bed, now…”

“Bed… you're getting tame,” she replied with a wink.

“Oh, nothing tame here, baby… you'll see.” I smirked, walking towards her and grabbing her ass. I lifted her skirt higher as my fingers teased around her puckered whole making her body shiver. “Strip…”

“Yes, sir,” she said as she took each layer of clothes off and dangled them between her fingertips, before dumping them in a path towards the bedroom door. She turned to face me. “Are you coming?”

“I certainly am. I certainly am.”

The first thing I did when we got back to the UK was to arrange a meeting with Tye’s father. He’d been a mentor to me when I first set up partnership with his son. He was full of regret for what Tye had done and asked for forgiveness, which I openly gave.
