I grabbed the steamy takeaway bag of Chinese food from Luke and sighed at the delicious aroma that filled the air. I made quick time of unpacking the cartons and opening the lids, placing a spoon in each one.

“Food’s up, guys. Dig in before it goes cold,” I chirped as Luke came back from the kitchen with another three beers opened.

“I thought we’d need these too.”

I dished some food onto my plate and stuck my fork into the crispy chilli chicken and took a bite. I didn’t dare hide my moan from escaping the depths of my throat at the taste. I glanced over at Christopher and his green eyes had darkened. The grip on his fork had tightened so much I was shocked he hadn’t bent the steel with the white knuckles he showed.

“What? It’s delicious. It’s my first time trying it.” I glanced between Christopher and Luke, watching their wide-eyed expressions and giggled. “I’m not normally a chilli kinda gal.”

“No, you’remypretty girl,” Christopher chimed back as he picked up a napkin and wiped the sauce that had gathered at the corner of my lips. “Better?”

“Extremely.” I dipped my head before taking a sip of my beer. “You were talking about it being different here than in London…” I said. I was desperate to know what he meant by that.

“I was…” Christopher didn’t once glance up. Instead, he kept his head low, pushing the food around on his plate as he avoided looking at us. “I have you here, Freddie and Luke too. I can enjoy different things. Everything I used to know back in London had changed and the places I used to go since…”

“I get it,” Luke mumbled. “What’s the main place you miss?”

“The club,” he answered.

I couldn’t help but scuffle back wide-eyed. Christopher shook his head as he reached for me and pulled me into his side.

“It’s a snooker club, Isobel,” he explained.

“What are we going to do with you?” Luke bellowed like he thought it was the funniest thing ever. He set his fork down on his now empty plate and took the last drag of his beer. “You really see us all at a seedy club? That’s classic. Freddie’s going to love that one.”

“I miss American Pool. I used to give most guys a run for their money,” Christopher joked as his fingers trailed up and down my side in random patterns. “I’ve not been in since the accident though. I’m unsure if my shot would be affected and it would crush me if I couldn’t play again.”

“Mate, you loved the game, not the winning!” Luke responded, stopping to grab his plate and empty bottle. “We’ll sort it out, yeah?” He paused to watch us for a moment and then continued. “I’m going to make a move but guys…”

“Yeah?” Christopher nodded at him and stood up, reaching for my hand to help me up. I bent down to pick up our plates but Christopher beat me to it.

“The walls are super thin here,” Luke teased. He winked and walked off, lifting his hand in the air to wave good night.

“Night, Luke,” I replied as he placed his plate in the sink and beer bottle in the recycling bin before heading to his room and shutting the door.

I crossed my arms over my chest and looked at the time. It was late and I knew I had better leave and head back to mine.

“Christopher.” He turned around, placing his hands on the worktop behind him. “I should call a cab and head back home.”

“It’s late, though. The price will be sky high and you’ve had a drink. I’ll feel better knowing you were here,” he replied, letting go of the worktop with one hand and curling his fingertip for me to come to him. “Pretty girl, stay. I’ll have the sofa and you can take my bed.”

“Christopher…” I admonished him. “It’s your bed!”

“And there’s no way you’re sleeping on the sofa. What if Luke or Freddie come in and find you all curled up…?”

“So, let’s share the bed then.” I dropped my head and bit my lip as I fisted my hands in my jumper. “We can lay next to each other and hold one another.” I held out my hand as an offering.

Christopher grabbed my palm in his. “Isobel, you’ll be the death of me.”

“Well, wouldn’t it be the best way to die?” I chuckled as Christopher led us to his room. He shut his bedroom door and I took in his space. It was decorated in light colors and the bedding was a plain gray with tight folded corners. I gulped as I quickly realized he was still very much the army boy through and through. “Are you ready for bed?” I asked him.

“With you by my side, fuck yes.”

I slowly removed each item of clothing, trembling with nerves as I placed my back away from him. I was unable to turn around, knowing that if I did, I’d see Christopher matching my moves. It was probably one of the most erotic things I’d done. Have a man know I was undressing for him but without pushing to take it further. This was all about a mental connection and not a physical one. It was also something that we both needed.

I kept both my thong and bra on and as I turned around to pull back the comforter on Christopher’s bed, I stopped when I saw that he was already laid in bed, waiting for me. It made me feel powerful and sexy that he had clearly been watching me undress.

He turned onto his side and propped himself up on his elbow. “Are you still sure about this, pretty girl?” Christopher asked. He patted the empty side of the bed as his hungry gaze traveled down the length of my body before returning and settling on my mouth, awaiting my answer. “I can still go on the couch if you prefer?”
