“Just feeling up your wife,” I joked. We all laughed when I said that before Thomas took his coat off and Lauren grabbed some plates.

“Do you want me to go and wake Isobel?” Lauren asked.

“No, I’ll go.” I pointed to the crispy chicken. “Don’t eat my share,” I said to Thomas, pointing at my favorite dish.

He rolled his eyes at me as he began to open up the various tubs of food.

I gently opened the door to my old bedroom. I hated to disturb her but I also knew that she needed to eat. She had a little life in her now that she had to care for. I sat on the end of the bed and placed my hand on her shoulder.

“Hey, pretty girl. It’s time for dinner.” I bent down to kiss her cheek but before my lips could make contact, she was shuffling her body to the edge of the mattress. She swung her legs over and faced away from me. “Is everything okay?” I asked her.

“Of course.” She stood up and as she walked around the bottom of the bed, I could see that she planned to walk right past me. “Hey.” I reached out and grabbed her wrist, stopping her from moving too far away. “What’s wrong?” I rubbed my thumb over her pulse point and I could see the tension leave her a little as her shoulders drooped. “Are you still tired?”

She stared down at me for a moment before she slowly shook her head. “I’m okay. Just a little tired, I think.” She gave me a small smile. “I’ll be okay after a night of rest.”

“You sure?” I asked.

“Yes.” She took my hand in hers and gave it a small tug. “Some food may help. The last time that we ate was on the plane.”

“Okay.” I entwined our fingers and let her pull me up. “Some dinner and we’ll have an early night.” I bent down and kissed her cheek. “Okay?” She immediately cuddled herself closer to me. “Then tomorrow I can show you a bit of London.”

She lifted her head to look at me and I couldn’t resist from lowering my lips to hers.

“That sounds perfect,” she whispered.

We had a few days of visiting the sights of London. I loved showing her the many views of my city, trying to cram in as many of them as I could:Piccadilly Circus, the West End, Her Majesty’s Theatre, Trafalgar Square, the London Eye. I had even squeezed in an impromptu visit to theHarry Potter Studio. She especially lovedBuckingham Palacebut as we stood at the railing, gazing at the large structure, I felt like there was something amiss.

“It’s so beautiful,” she whispered.

“Well, it is fit for a Queen. Needs to be grand, I suppose,” I teased in a disinterested tone. I placed my hands over her stomach and tried to imagine how beautiful she will be when there’s a bump there for me to stroke and rub. “I can’t wait to meet our princess,” I commented.

“It could be a prince.” She turned and glanced up at me. “Or it could be one of each.” She laughed at my horrified expression. “Or not.”

“Let’s start with one, shall we?” I took her face in my hands and stroked my thumbs across her cheekbones. “I’m not sure I could handle two straight away.”

“Start?” Now she looked horrified. “How many did you plan on us having? A whole litter?”

“Well,” I started, “I’m not saying I want you barefoot and pregnant in my kitchen regularly but I’d like three maybe. At least one of each.” Her eyes narrowed when I said that and I wished once again that I could crawl inside her mind and wonder what she was thinking. “What?” I asked. “Have I surprised you?”

“A little,” she said in a quiet tone.

Her words weren’t insulting but they bothered me a little. Since we had arrived in London, I have felt like there has been something going on with her that I don’t know about. I can’t say that it was to do with Thomas or Lauren because every time that they spoke, they got on really well. It was everything that I wanted it to be but there was something going on with Isobel that I knew I was being kept in the dark about.

“Do you…?” I paused, not really wanting the answer to that question but needing to ask it anyway. “Do you not want that? With me?” I hated how fucking insecure I sounded but when she said yes to being my wife, I thought she wanted everything with me.

A family. A future. A soulmate to spend forever with.

“Of course, I do.” She placed her hands over mine. “I just…” She blew out a breath. “I don’t know. I guess I am missing home I guess? That sounds silly, doesn’t it?”

“No,” I immediately answered, not wanting her to feel silly for being homesick. “Your body has been under a lot of stress lately. I want you to take it easy when we get home.”

“Okay.” She rubbed her thumb over my hand and the action soothed me a little.

I stared into her eyes for a few long moments before I spoke again. “Are you sure that’s it? I feel like there’s something going on that I don’t know about.”

Her eyes flashed with an unspoken emotion at my words. I couldn’t tell if it was love or some other emotion but I was happy when she lifted up on the top of her toes and pressed her lips to mine.
