“He’s just a good friend?!” I questioned in shock, realizing my error at the way in which my hormones had taken control of my reasonable thoughts.

“Isobel, it’s always been you. Christopher lovesyou.” Luke reached for my hand and squeezed it. “You’re the light in his eyes and you manage to scare the shadows from the darkness of his nightmares to nothing. He’s whole and complete again—because of you—no one else. Just you, the love of his life and the mother of his child.”

“I need him,” I whispered into the air. “I need to admit why I’ve been such a hormonal, cranky bitch that would’ve given Satan a run for his money.”

Luke chuckled at my statement. “No, it’s just that little one making themselves known. I’d rather have to deal with an emotional you than a whiny Freddie.”

“I’ll tell him you said that,” I joked, pulling him in for a hug.

“I’m counting on it,” Luke countered. “Now, go and clean that pretty face up. Freddie will be dropping your man back off here in less than thirty.”

“What? How?” I asked in shock, side-eyeing him.

“I can’t be revealing all my tricks now, can I? Now go.”

“Yes, matchmaker.” I giggled as I went to the bathroom, leaving Luke alone while I freshened myself up.

Ichanged out of the clothes I had traveled in into something more comfortable—my jeans and a tank top—before quickly brushing my hair through and splashing some water on my face, hoping it would remove some of the redness. I was determined to get as much wear out of my favorite jeans as I could before my bump made an appearance but it did make me wonder if they made maternity versions. Now that would be comfort at its best.

I headed back into the lounge only to be stopped in my tracks. Luke was gone and stood in the kitchen looking sheepish and concerned was my soldier boy. I didn’t even hear the door go.

“Luke didn’t want to disturb you by saying goodbye… I said we’ll see them later.” I cut Christopher off, stalking straight toward him. I balanced myself on my tiptoes as I wrapped my arms around his neck. I desperately wanted to climb his body but I needed to restrain myself and let my words come out. I put my finger over his lips, silencing him before dropping back down onto the flats of my feet. “Isobel.”

“Please Christopher,” I begged, flitting my gaze back and forth, taking him in. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.” I crumbled as Christopher lifted me in his arms. He wrapped his arm around my waist and spun me around, only stopping to placed me down on the kitchen worktop. I opened my legs wider as he stood between them. He reached forward and moved the loose hair that had fallen over my eyes behind my ears. “I shouldn’t have listened. I should have come out and made my presence known.”

“Isobel, if I had thought you’d reacted so upset and confused like this, then I would’ve told you,” Christopher whispered, placing a ghostly kiss against my lips. “Lauren and I never were anything more than friends.”

“Luke told me you had two dates.” I dropped my gaze lower, not wanting to see his reaction. “I know I overreacted but how would you have felt if I had said Freddie and I had been in the same position? That I hadn’t told you.”

“Point taken.” Christopher rubbed his thumb across my cheek as I fought the moan that was traveling up my throat. “I’d have felt the same.”

“It’s not that I’m angry.” I sighed, finding the words hard to formulate. “This little bean has flipped my emotions on my head and then to have discovered that I don’t know…”

“You didn’t feel like the earth to me any longer, the one that keeps me spinning continuously on its axis. You were scared,” he inserted.

“I was,” I admitted. “I panicked that I was seeing more there…”

“I can see why you would. We’re close friends but she’s always been Thomas’s and she always will be. Trust me in saying that. I have all I need and want…” Christopher rubbed my stomach and kissed me deeply before moving back. “And if you’d let me, I want to show you how much.”

I raised my brow as Christopher winked at me, my core fluttering at all the possibilities that we could do.

“Only if you do that special thing I love so much with your tongue,” I teased. I then tugged Christopher closer for a languished kiss, unable to resist him.

“You mean…” He pulled back, groaning against my lips. “You’d love me to do that more than being fucked deep and hard right now by my cock on this worktop?”

“Who said anything about choosing?” I laughed. “I just had an order of priorities and that tongue of yours knows exactly what it’s doing to get me just right.”

“Oh, it sure does.” He winked. “I’ll do anything for my pretty girl. Absolutely anything. Now let’s remove those little knickers of yours, shall we?”

“Who said I was wearing any?”

CHAPTERTWENTY-FOUR

CHRISTOPHER

“Ican’t wait to see it.” I kissed her inner thigh as she laid spread out on her bed. I peeked my tongue out to taste her, loving the sight of her laying there, still trying to catch her breath after orgasming three times already from my mouth and fingers.
