“It’s with your McLaren, sir…and a bunch of other cars,” he finished awkwardly.

“I see,” I said, my voice coming out like ice.

Pax and Stellan exchanged a look, and Remington whistled. “Someone is definitely going to die tonight.”

I pushed my soaking-wet sleeves up my biceps as the four of us hustled down the stairs to the garage. The acrid scent of a fire hit my nose as soon as I pushed open the doors, all gasoline, burnt plastic and metal.

The McLaren was nothing but a burnt-up shell. Stellan cursed as he saw his own car with paint peeling and a shattered windshield. Dozens of the cars were damaged, but the McLaren was obviously the center of the chaos. Someone had been trying to get my attention… they wouldn’t enjoy their victory, though.

“Security footage,” I ground out just as our cell phones pinged. Remington had his head down over his phone; he must have just sent it out to all of us.

Aurora came up on the video. She swaggered into the garage carrying a bottle of my booze and my cigar case. She flashed a big smile and a special finger at the camera.

And she lit my goddamn car on fire.

I didn’t know what the fuck to do with myself.

I should kill her.

If she’d done that to someone else, though, it’d be so fucking hot.

“Let’s not rush to punishment,” Pax said.

“We don’t need to rush the punishment,” I said, purposefully reinterpreting him. “Anyway, I’m sure she’s run halfway across the state by now. She knows how to hide. By the time we’ve caught up to her, I’ll have decided what to do with her.”

“Do you want me to release the internet on her again?” Remington asked. “I’m sure the sightings will start rolling in, track her movement for us.”

“No, she’s ours,” I said, and I didn’t even know what I meant by that. Ours to punish, definitely. Ours to hurt. Ours to…

The alarms got shut off and a clean-up crew came to deal with the McLaren and the rest of the damaged cars. My jaw tightened as I left the disaster.

That car had been one of my favorite toys, and I hated when anyone played with my toys but me.

I walked into my bedroom, already peeling off my wet shirt.

Aurora was on my bed.

“What the fuck?” I growled. The surprise racing through my blood felt like coming to life.

She was never fucking boring.

“Hi, Cain,” she purred. She was laying back on my pillows, and as I watched, she took a handful of popcorn from the paper bag and tossed it into her mouth. She’d helped herself to my television; it was playing some kind of rom-com.

“What do you think you’re doing? Do you have a death wish?” My voice came out cold and clear and…curious.

A wise girl would’ve run.

“I’m eating popcorn,” she said, as if I were a bit stupid. “The party got boring.”

“You didn’t seem bored the last time I saw you. You looked like you were going to cry.”

She tilted her chin, her gaze meeting mine frankly. “I was disappointed in you. Now I know who you are, though, so there’s no reason for me to be upset.”

“There’s no reason for you to be upset?” I was about to give her one. “I didn’t expect you to stay here.”

“Where else would I go?” she asked innocently.

“Somewhere safer than my bed when you’ve just pissed me off.”
