I hurried out into the sitting area just as Samantha burst through the door.

“Baby. Help,” she panted, then spun on her heel and ran out again. Perry handed me my medical bag, and I sprinted after her.

“Noah!” Blair cried when she saw me. “I think she’s having an allergic reaction to something.”

She had the baby lying flat on a changing table with her legs elevated to keep blood flowing to vital organs. Her head was propped up to help with her breathing because she was wheezing, and despite the redness covering her face, her skin was tinted blue. She was definitely in anaphylactic shock. I set my bag on a nearby table and opened it. “Blair, why don’t you go help calm the other kids?” I suggested. “Samantha can help me.”

My girl was amazing with children, but I knew when parents found out about this, they would feel better if the owner—who had a degree in childhood development—was watching over their little ones during an emergency.

I quickly found the pouch I was looking for and unzipped it. I always had EpiPens on me, but with all the work I did with pediatrics, I also carried single-use injectors made specifically for infants. They had a shorter needle and gave a smaller dose.

After grabbing one, I turned back to the baby and called Samantha over. I took the pen out of its tube and removed the safety release as I instructed her. “I need you to hold her leg very steady. Can you do that for me?”

She nodded and swallowed hard, obviously fighting tears. But she was staying calm, and I was so fucking proud of her.

Once she was holding the baby’s limb, I placed the red tip of the pen firmly against the side of her thigh, about halfway between the hip and knee. I injected the medicine into the fleshy part of her leg and waited three seconds before taking the injector out and returning the pen to the clear storage tube before tossing it back into my bag to dispose of properly. Then I massaged the injection site and watched the baby closely.

After a minute, I could just barely hear some of the wheezing abating, and a little bit of the blue faded. The paramedics arrived a few minutes later, and I sent a silent thank you into the universe that I’d been in my office that day. New York City was not a place where you wanted to be reliant on ambulances. Through no fault of their own, the casualty rate was higher than most places due to traffic congestion and irresponsible people who didn’t move out of the fucking way when they heard the siren and saw the flashing lights.

The little girl’s rash was beginning to clear by the time they took her to the hospital, and I breathed a sigh of relief. I was closing up my bag when I spotted Blair giving Samantha a hug and whispering something in her ear.

“I’m very impressed with you two,” I said to the girls as I pivoted to face them. “You did exactly the right thing and most likely saved that little girl’s life.”

Blair smiled gratefully. “All of my employees are required to go through rigorous training. Not just CPR, but other situations such as this one. Sam and I go through the same classes and recertifications as well.”

Before anything else was said, the phone in the office blared, and Blair excused herself to go answer it. “Ten bucks says it's your father calling to make sure we’re okay,” she muttered with a shake of her head. “Obsessed man and his cameras…” Her words sounded annoyed, but her voice was brimming with amusement.

I looked at Samantha with a warm smile, and a pretty blush bloomed on her cheeks. My mind wandered briefly to how far down that color would go when she was climaxing. Would it spread all the way to her toes while she was bouncing on my cock?

I forced my thoughts back to the matter at hand. And that was when I realized how perfect my timing was. “Well, all that training has paid off. You were incredibly calm and levelheaded, Samantha.” Saying her name out loud never failed to make my cock twitch with desire.

“I was scared to death,” she admitted weakly.

Shrugging, I took a step closer and stared into her gorgeous blue eyes. “I’m scared to death every time I step into an operating room. But then my training and experience kicks in, and the calm comes with it.”

Samantha’s lips curled up at the corners, and she ducked her head. “Thanks.”

I looked around with pretend interest, as if I hadn’t been staring at this facility through cameras for nine weeks. “You must enjoy working with children,” I mused, as if it was the first time I’d considered the thought.
