Fuck. Not good.

Chills break out along my spine, and I know I need to do something.Something.

I rest my head against the wall, closing my eyes as I do what I’ve always been told.

You don’t necessarily need a spell. You don’t need the sticks and the stones and the herbs to create magic. You just need the blood.

I bite down on my lip, feeling the skin crack and a trail of blood seeps onto my tongue. I suck it clean, taking a deep breath, as I just… do.

Let us go.

Let us free.

Let. Us. Go.

Our screams are simultaneous as we crash to the ground. Disoriented, I clutch my head as I look up, seeing the woman’s creepy smile gone, a harsh glare having taken its place. There’s a dark energy swirling around her.

Not good.

“Run.RUN!” I scream as loud as I can, scrambling to my feet. I bolt to the front door, listening as the pounding of everyone’s feet chase after me. Racing out the already opened door, I jump off the top stair to the ground.

I can hear everyone panting, not one of us looking over our shoulders as we keep going as far, and fast, away from that place as we possibly can.

We make our way down the road, and just as we’re about to hit the woods, something catches my eyes, and I dig my heels into the ground, dirt flying up around me.

“Oomph,” Felix grunts, slamming into my back. “What the fuck are you doing?”

I stare at the police station, feeling like I should go in there. Like, my gut screams, Ineedto go in there.

“I need to go in there,” I echo my thoughts, my eyes not leaving the station.

Felix shakes his head, clearly frustrated, grabbing onto my arm and hauling me toward the trees. “No. Fuck no, we’re getting out of here. You were just in the asylum with us, right? You fucking saw what happened?”

“Hazel, come on! I want to leave!” Vera shouts at me.

I step away from them, putting my hand up. “I’ll be quick. You don’t have to come.”

Felix narrows his eyes. “Hazel…” he warns.

Glaring at him, I shrug. “One minute. Five tops. Be right back!” I shout, already spinning on my feet, darting toward the old police station. I make my way to the front door, pulling on it, letting out a sigh as the bell rings above me. As I step inside, I glance around, not really sure what I’m looking for, but I feel like this will be our last time here, at least for a while, and I need something.

This trip has to have been worthsomething.

I walk around the front desk, darting toward the different rooms, not even sparing a glance in my peripherals. I refuse to get creeped out by any shadows, though I can feel them all around me, watching me, waiting for me.

A few jail cells sit off to the side, the toilets brown and black from age, the metal bars rusted and weathered. There’s a glass shelf off to the side, a few rifles hanging on some hooks. Historic guns.

Those won’t help me.

I head to what looks like the sheriff’s office, with a large bookshelf against his wall. My eyes scan the books, seeing a bunch of crap I don’t care about. Then my fingers pause when something catches my eyes.

“History of Castle Pointe.” I pull it from the shelf, wiping off the dust as a snicker sounds behind me.

I close my eyes, taking a deep breath. “No. Not today.”

Clutching the book as tightly as I can, I spin on my heels, keeping my eyes on the ground as I race out of the station. The laughter grows louder, until it’s a cackle right in my ears. My palms slap against the door, and I race out, my heart pounding as I make my way across the street.

“Five minutes too long,” Felix snaps.
