“Let’s smoke,” I grunt, walking out of the room and closing the door behind me.

BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP.

The loud, incessant alarm blares through the house, and I shoot up in bed, my eyes going wide as my ears start to ring.

“What the fuck?” I rip my sheets back, glancing to the side of the bed, seeing the other half of the mattress empty.

Hazel?

I hear doors in the hallway opening, and I race out of my room, seeing Atticus and Levi stumbling out of their rooms, both looking irritated and concerned as fuck.

“What the hell is going on?” Levi shouts over the blaring alarm.

“How do we turn this shit off?” Atticus roars, his free hand pinching the bridge of his nose.

My phone starts ringing, and I groan, stepping back into my room. “That’s probably the alarm company, or my fucking dad.”

I pick up my phone, hitting Connect, when a stale sounding woman starts barking from the phone, letting me know what I already know—my fucking alarm is going off.

“Uh—” A scream cuts me off, horrified, tortured.

Hazel.

“Sir, is everything okay?” The woman’s voice sounds a bit more concerned, and both Atticus and Levi look toward the hallway, having heard her scream as well.

“I have to go. False alarm.” I hit End on my phone, tossing it out of my bed as I bolt out of my room. We race down the stairs and through the living room. I see the back door opened, and we run outside, my eyes widening when I see Hazel standing in the distance, her back to us as she faces the woods.

“Dude, what the fuck?” Levi growls.

“Creepy,” Atticus whispers.

“Hazel,” I bark, rounding my pool, heading toward her. My bare feet press into the cold grass as I walk up to her, still only covered by my white shirt, not seeming cold in the slightest.

I stalk closer, my hand going to her shoulder as I move in front of her. “Hazel!” I bark again, stopping in my step as I see her.

Her eyes are rolled in the back of her head, and she stands still as a statue, frozen in place as she faces the woods.

“Hazel!” I shake her, wondering if she’s sleepwalking or something. Does she do that? Is that a normal-ass thing for witches? I don’t know.

“Dude, what the hell is wrong with her?” Atticus shouts when he sees her eyes.

Levi steps forward, patting her cheek with his hand. “Hey, witch, wake the fuck up!”

“Her eyes are just like Malik’s were, bro. This shit isn’t cool,” Atticus groans.

I want to slap him in the face, yet I feel the same panic in my chest. I grab her by both shoulders, shaking her back and forth. “Hazel! Wake the hell up!”

Her neck bends back, her head tilting toward the night sky. I let go of her as I step back, the three of us circling her when she levitates off the ground, her toes pointed toward the grass, her arms relaxed at her sides as she floats in the air.

“Fucking hell,” Levi whispers.

I shake my head. What the fuck is going on?This is too eerily close to what happened when Malik was possessed the other year, but this couldn’t be happening again, could it?

We all take another step back as she lifts higher, her feet leveling with our heads. She remains pointed to the sky, looking nearly angelic, delicate as she freezes in the air. Her mouth stays closed, her eyes still rolled in the back of her head.

How the hell do I snap her out of it?

I grab onto her ankle, and I try to pull, but it’s like she’s secured by something, even though there’s nothing there. She won’t budge.
