Page 61 of Chaotic Anger

I step in because I feel bad. He shouldn’t have to deal with a three-year-old the moment he gets off his bike after riding for who knows how long.

“Come on, Lilah. Give him some room.” I peel her off of him and step back. An arm snaps out and snakes around my waist. I’m pulled into Aziel’s side.

“Who said I wanted room?”

“Well, I’m sure you’re tired… or something.” I blush at the affection.

He leans down, brushing his lips across my neck. My eyes pop into saucers. “What’re you doing?”

“I might be running on zero hours of sleep, but I also think I’m getting tired of us tip toeing around each other.” He rasps against the crook of my neck.

I admit, I might be the reason for that. He’s been insistent in sleeping in his bed with me and Lilah, almost every night. Not that I mind. But daytime comes, and I’m a little distant. If I’m being honest, I know it’s because I’m scared. I’m scared of the future and I don’t want to jinx or give any reason for the world to come crashing around me. I’d much prefer to keep things in the dark where hopefully fate can’t even see what’s happening.

But it appears he’s had enough.

“Will you come with me to my house? I really want to take a fucking shower.” And he surprises me again.

“What?”

“Come home with me.” He squeezes my side.

I look up at him, and his blue eyes swirl with want and need and maybe a little hesitation.

“What about Lilah?”

“I’ll take her for a bit. She can help me gets these guys some food.” Haley says from the doorway. Lilah perks up at that, grabbing onto Haley’s ha[ Knd and skipping inside without a backwards glance at me.

Well, shit.

“You sure you don’t want to go by yourself? I don’t want to be a bother.”

“Why would you be?” He asks, a lick of anger in his tone. “If I ask you to go, I want you to go. I’m not trying to play any damn games, Ivy.”

My eyes widen. “I can see that.”

His shoulders drop. “You’re coming, then?”

“Yeah, I’ll come.”

His eyes glitter in anticipation, and a nervous ball of energy forms in the bottom of my rib cage, making it nearly impossible to take a full breath.

“I’ll be back.” Aziel mutters to the guys.

His dad lifts an eyebrow but says nothing else.

Hopping on his bike, he roars it to life and gives me an expectant look. I slide on behind him, almost like second nature even though I’ve only been on his bike one other time. My arms curl around his stomach. Even with the October air, my body warms to a sweltering temperature.

I jerk back as he shoots forward, my hands clinging even tighter to the tight muscles on his abdomen. It’s like perfectly sculpted brick made his human in front of me. He makes a wide U-turn and heads away from the front gate. I’ve never been towards the back of the property, nor do I have any idea how much land these guys own. But as we ride down a makeshift road, only stopping so Aziel can open a door on the back gate, and down a hill, we end up somewhere I’ve never been.

It’s still dry up in the mountains away from San Diego, but the trees are bountiful and lush, bringing fresh air and green landscape to the desert. He weaves through spruce and pine trees as he glides down the hill. In the distance, I can see a small cabin-like home that sits half-hidden inside oversized spruce trees. A rambler made to look more like a lumberjack home instead of a rough biker’s. But as we pull up to it, I see the appeal and the beauty. It sits towards the edge of a hill, with wooded landscape behind him. But in front of him sits the world. He parks next to the home which gives me a generous look of the scenery around me. All I can see are mountains. Mountains that range in various sizes and colors. Some look nearly black, while others have a shadow of gray cloaking them. The closer hills are painted green, and some are even tinted bluish from the sky above. It’s beautiful here, and I internally take back my thought about his lumberjack cabin.

This place is beautiful.

“You comin’?” He says as he twirls his key around his finger.

“Oh, yeah. Sorry. This place is just… wow.” I say, glancing over my shoulder once more to check out the beauty behind me.

“Yeah. It’s pretty awesome. And it’s hidden from the trees, so no one really knows we’re here.”
