Maybe I need to take my own advice and stop living in the past so I can think about having a future with the woman I love and who loved me just as much.

But that would mean reliving the pain. Fuck. If I let Valentina go again, then my father will have taken two people I love from me. I can’t allow that.

We might have lost a lot of time, but there was still plenty of love and life in us. I don’t know how I’m going to win her back, but I’m going to.

And I think I might just have the ally to make it happen.

I knew Abby and Timothy probably hadn’t gone too far. I dialed her number. “Hi, Abby, it’s Rick. I was hoping that you two could hang around a little longer and have dinner with me. There’s some things I’d like to talk to you about.”

“Funny, I had a feeling I’d be hearing from you. Is this about my mother?” she asked.

“It’s about all of us,” I replied. “And hopefully, a bright future.”

“I like the sound of that. Just tell us when and where and we will be there. And you don’t even have to say it. I know, keep this a secret,” she said.

I chuckled. “Not for long, I promise.”

I sent her the information and sat back down planning out exactly what I wanted my future with Valentina to look like. Was it wrong to involve her daughter in winning back her heart? Maybe. But why not have the two people who loved her the most be on the same team?

Team Valentina.
