“And she went along with that?” I asked surprised.

Abby rubbed her belly. “You’d be surprised what I can get away with being pregnant. But I figured it was better for her not to be too connected to the outside world. I might have told Meg and Kathleen what was going on before we left. They were so excited that I became worried one of them might let it slip out that you’re on the ship too.”

“Good thinking.” Would’ve been better if you didn’t tell them anything.

Carlie got up and walked over to me. Softly she asked, “Is everything okay?”

I nodded, but not very convincingly. “We haven’t spoken since we were together on the cruise the last time.”

“Did you call her?” she asked.

“I sent a text a while back. But she didn’t respond.”

“A text? You spend a week with her, you love her, and all you did was text her? God, you need to learn so much,” Carlie stated.

“So you think this has all been a waste of time,” I asked.

Abby got up and joined us. “Rick, don’t you dare start thinking about backing out. I know my mother. She didn’t respond to your text because she’s scared. We’ve talked about her feelings, and I’m not going to lie, she was really hurt about what happened in the past. But beyond that, she just needs to know that you’re not going to…leave her again. Everything you have done to put this together will show her that.”

“Rick, you need to trust in the love you two share. If you really believe that fate has brought you together again, then don’t let anything, especially your own fears, stand in the way of getting your own happily-ever-after,” Carlie stated.

“Besides sounding very much like the romance author you are, that’s good advice. I just can’t imagine what my life would be like if she said no.”

Abby touched my arm. “She’s not. Face it, Rick. You’re about to become part of the Rizzo family.”

I sure in hell hope so.

Carlie said, “Why don’t you go and finish working on your vows. Abby and I are done with our list and we are going back on deck to enjoy our vacation. If you get bored, let me know and I’ll bring you a book to read,” she smiled.

“I’ll pass on that,” I said. “But thank you ladies for all your help.”

Tomorrow I’ll have my answer.
