“Breakfast in bed sounds perfect to me,” he said, and kissed me lightly.

“Hey, don’t start that,” Abby warned. “We have an entire day planned out, and you two are coming with us.”

I smiled. It didn’t matter what the plans were - Rick and I couldn’t get out of going. “I’m not sure I can handle any more surprises, but count us in,” I said.

Abby sat back down, looking very proud of herself. “You know, maybe I should become a matchmaker. I’m pretty good at this stuff.”

Everyone around the table started to laugh. Rick said, “I hate to break it to you, but this match was made in heaven long before you were born.”

Definitely a love story worth writing, but much better lived.

“I love you, Rick,” I said.

“Love you too, sweetheart.” He kissed me briefly, then added, “Now, where’s the food? I’m famished.”

So am I. But I guess my appetite won’t be satisfied until tonight.

Everyone started talking about food and I just sat back taking it all in. I loved being here, surrounded by family. If I knew this was what turning fifty was going to be like, I’d have done it long ago.

I had no idea what the future would bring us, but this was a hell of a good start.
