Damn. I walked right into that. No point in denying it. “I’d like the first person to hear those words, be Trisha.”

“Wow. She is a lucky woman. I don’t know many men who’d be so…thoughtful. So answer this question. What the hell are you doing here and not with her?”

The answer was very simple. “She didn’t ask me to join her.”

Penny nodded. “I see that you need my help. Mikal, if you really love her, then meet me tonight after I get off work. I know just what you need to do.”

“I think it’d be best if I waited until she returns home. She and I can discuss our feelings then,” I stated.

“If she comes back. Right now, her world is with her son because she doesn’t know one thing that would bring her home. Your love.”

I didn’t want Penny’s help any more than I wanted her advice. Didn’t mean I didn’t need them both.

“What time do you close?”

“Midnight. Come a few minutes before and you can help me lock up. Then we can talk. How does that sound?”

Like I’m going to regret agreeing to this.

“I’ll be here.”

I got up and headed home. With any luck, something brilliant would come to mind and I wouldn’t need Penny for anything.

If it means being with Trisha again, then I’ll listen to what Penny has to say.
