Evidently, she wasn’t privy to her brother’s plans either. “We’ve spoken, but nothing is set in stone.” I’ve gotten pretty good at dancing around these questions with vague replies.

“Imagine if you did. You would be able to see Reesa anytime you wanted,” she teased.

Reesa changed the subject, which was fine with me. “What shops do you think we should show Finn first?”

Zoey said, “I love the pottery shop.”

Bennett shook his head. “No man wants to walk through a place that sells pottery. There is a local craftsman who makes knives. You’d be impressed. All his handles are one of a kind. I’ve purchased a few myself.”

“You’ve purchased more than a few and no woman wants to go and spend her day looking at knives, either,” Zoey said.

“I know a place we might all agree on. Why don’t we take Finn to the factory and let him see some of the furniture being made?” Reesa said.

“That’s a great idea. Why didn’t I think of that?” Zoey said.

“Because you were too busy looking over the dessert menu,” Bennett teased.

She shot him a look, but then placed her order, as did the rest of us.

The entire afternoon flew by. The factory was a warehouse with just a few men putting the finishing touches on the pieces before they were ready to be shipped out. It was an interesting and informative field trip, and I was glad Reesa thought of it. I had no regrets about how we’d spent the day, but now I wanted time alone with her.

Bennett and Zoey dropped us off at her house. Reesa invited them in, but Bennett declined her offer with a knowing nod to me.

Once they had driven away, I asked, “Are you inviting me in?”

Reesa asked, “Do you want to come in?”

“I should take a look at that hand of yours again. And the lighting out here isn’t so good,” I winked.

“Well then, Dr. O’Connor. I guess I have no choice but to ask you in.” When we got inside she said, “Would you like a drink or something?”

“I’ll take the ‘or something,’ please,” I said, and pulled her into my arms and kissed her. “Hmm. Much sweeter than any wine.”

“Did you…want to come sit down?” she asked.

Not really, but it wasn’t like I could scoop her up into my arms, carry her to her bedroom, and kiss every inch of her.

“If you’d like,” I said. Reesa didn’t move. “Are we going to sit?” I asked.

She shrugged. “I…I’m still thinking.”

“About sitting?”

She shook her head. “Finn, I’m not very good at this. I mean, I run an entire country, but I…don’t date. It’s been years since I’ve…been…involved with anyone. I’m…not sure what I’m supposed to say or do or…”

I placed a finger across her lips and said, “Reesa. The couch is fine. And you don’t have to be nervous.”

“If you tell me it’s like riding a bike, then you’re going to be sad to learn I’ve never ridden a bike before,” she said.

Was she trying to tell me she was a virgin or that she’d really never ridden a bike? If she was a virgin, that would change everything. God, her uneasiness was making me uneasy, too.

“Are you a….”

“No. That’s not what I meant. I’ve been with a man before. It’s just that…I’m out of practice,” she stammered.

I cupped her face and said, “You don’t kiss like you need any practice.” Claiming her lips again, I showed her exactly what I meant.

This time she opened her mouth and instead of welcoming my tongue, she was doing her own exploring.
