“If I didn’t think I could trust you, you’d never have even known I was working on this. Don’t worry. I have men here all the time. We will try to keep her safe,” he said.
Try. Not what I want to hear. I can’t lose her.
I knew that as long as she was president, she would be a target. But I don’t think that even though her life is in danger, that she would walk away from all she’s trying to do. It was going to be up to me, and other that care about her, to watch her back.
“Count me in. I’m not going anywhere,” I said.
“You accepted the job?” he asked.
“We haven’t discussed it yet. But we will.”
Not today. I knew she had a lot of unanswered questions. That was difficult enough to deal with. But beyond that, learning that hadn’t just intended to scare her, but wanted her dead, had to have shaken her to the core. Hell, it did me. She had a lot to process, not just a person, but as the president. For now, she needed her space. I’d be here when she is ready.
At least as long as she is on New Hope property, she will be safe. It’s when she decides she needs to get her life back to normal, that’s when we’ll need to worry.
