“I need to get a truck,” he responded softly.

She giggled. “I suggest a Ford.”

“You definitely sold me on this one,” he said.

“It can be yours if the price is right,” she joked. “Actually, I don’t think I can part with her. We’ve been through a lot. Guess you’ll have to get your own Ford.”

“You’ll have to come truck shopping with me,” he said.

“I wonder if they’ll let us test drive them all,” she said.

He pulled her closer and said, “How is it that you even make car shopping appealing?”

She smiled. “Just remember, this wasn’t my dream, it was yours.”

“Not yet. But it’s getting there.” He reached for the blanket to wrap it around them. “Now, let’s find the shooting stars you told me about. I have a few wishes I’d like to come true. How about you?”

She laid her head on his should and said, “Mine already has.”

Could she see herself with him long-term? Was it possible for them to take it to the next level? They hadn’t put a label on this yet, and he wasn’t sure they needed it. There was only one thing he needed to know. Does she love me too? He wished it was as easy as giving her a hug and she would know.

He saw the star streaking across the sky. Closing his eyes, he wished. Show me how to have it all. Because without her, it all feels like nothing.

As though the universe was answering his question, she lifted her head and said, “That was weird.”

“What was?”

“I just had a flutter throughout me. Like butterflies or something.”

“Are you okay?” he asked, worried. He hoped he hadn’t hurt her, knowing damn well he’d been a bit rougher than he’d wanted. She hadn’t complained, actually she seemed to be enjoying it as much as he was, but he’d never forgive himself if he hurt her.

She nodded. “It wasn’t a pain, but a light, warming feeling. Like a hug without being touched. It felt…nice…just...not something I’ve ever felt before. And I really can’t describe it either.” She smiled and in a sexy voice added, “Maybe it’s my body trying to come down after you brought me to the heavens.”

He had to agree; his body was still tingling too. But he hoped it was more than that. Jerry wasn’t one who believed in fate, or hope, or wishes coming true, but that didn’t stop him from looking back up at the stars. Something had heard him. Thank you.

Jerry wrapped his arms around her more tightly and said, “You definitely were sent to me by the heavens, because you’re my angel.” Reanna lifted her head, looking down at him again. He brushed her hair out of her eyes and added, “You’re more than that. I’d try to put it in words, but I haven’t been able to figure it all out myself. I just know that you mean more to me than I ever thought possible.”

“I feel the same way. I thought I was happy with my life the way it was. Never thought there was anything missing. Until you came into it. Now it’s…”

“Complete,” he offered. She nodded. “I told you before my only fear was ending up like my parents. Do you remember that?”

“I do.”

“Their marriage wasn’t one of love. It was a business decision to continue to grow the Heart empire. It’s the way my family has done things for generations. You don’t fit into that mold. You’re not a good business decision. But you’re the best one I’ve ever made.”

“Jerry, I’m sure you’re trying to tell me something important, but you’re losing me along the way.”

He smiled. “Leave it to me to make something so simple, complicated.”

“Oh good. I thought it was me. So, in simple terms, what are you trying to tell me?” Reanna asked.

“That I love you.” The words that he’d never expected to come out of his mouth were spoken. And more than that, they reflected what he felt with every cell of his being.

Reanna’s eyes glistened. “You…love me?” He nodded and she said, “Good thing, because I love you too.”

He lifted his head and kissed her. Jerry could feel the warmth of the tears as they ran down her cheeks and onto his. When he broke the embrace, he said, “Honey, I don’t know what the next step is for us. This is all new to me.”

Reanna said, “Not planning has worked well for us so far. Why don’t we just let nature take its course?”
