My eyes flew open and I pulled the blanket away from my head to see who was standing there judging me. But when I saw the Styrofoam cup he was holding, I relaxed.

“You’re a life saver, thank you.” I snagged the cup from him and took a sip. Black coffee wasn’t at all what I had wanted, but right now, I wasn’t going to complain. I reached into my pocket and pulled out a business card to hand to him. “I’m available anytime you need me. And as a thanks for the coffee, I’ll give you the first hour for free.”

Jay looked quizzically at both sides of the card, and then back to me with a disapproving look.

Guess what? I don’t give a crap what you think. It’s not like you’re going to be around more than a week anyway. Surprisingly though, Jay was someone I’d have liked to see Samantha bring home. He seemed so…polished. He wore a wool overcoat – perfect for this weather - and I could tell he was wearing a suit under it. Not something I’d have thought a guy would wear to the gym before 5 a.m., but Samantha was right, I hadn’t been listening. Maybe she had said he managed the gym or owned a gym. Everything about this guy screamed mature and responsible. Neither were things Samantha usually looked for in a man. She liked loud and wild, and a bit on the dangerous side. His eyes were dark and mysterious, but I didn’t feel threatened in the least. If he wasn’t dating Samantha, I might even give him a closer look, but right now it was hands off. Don’t screw this one up, Samantha. Hotties like this don’t grow on trees.

“I’ll give you this, it’s a…unique approach, but I won’t require your…services.” He returned my card and then walked away.

Your loss.I rarely gave a discount. I figured if they could afford to pay those crazy-ass prices for the tickets in the first place, then they could pay me for my time. I looked at my business card. Your Stand-In. Anytime. Anyplace. At least he acknowledged my creativity. That was almost better than the coffee.

A shiver ran through me and I pulled the blanket back over my head, bracing myself for the next five hours. Maybe I need to start charging for my cold meds, too.
